Are there any such things as "green" shellacs or the like? I got DS a couple of the wooden puzzle types thingies that have various pictures on them but as soon as the picture part gets even slightly damp, it starts comping off. I wanted to see if there is a type of hard coating I could put on them to seal them that won't be an issue if he puts them in his mouth.

Re: Shellac or sealant
Salad bowl oil--you can find it at a woodworking store, or buy it online from a place like Rockler.com. It's a finish made for finishing wood items that is food safe (hence the name).
It's an absorbing finish, so it won't make a hard shell and you'll have to reapply once a year or so, but it's totally safe, which makes it worth it.
