Here she is! she is a 6 month old whippet mix that we found on petfinder! we were getting frustrated working with one shelter because they weren't responding for weeks at a time, so one day after school, I searched petfinder high and low, and narrowed it down to about 4 options for DH to look at (he hates all that in between stuff).
He took one look at her, and just said "her! we're done, fill out the application!" two weeks later, and she is home with us! it was a pretty fast process cosidering we were finally aproved for adoption on Monday, and the transport company was making a trip up this weekend.
Her backstory is that she was left in someones yard in south carolina when she was 5 weeks old, and has been in two homes prior to us. The first home had another dog, and I guess she is really submissive when she plays. She loves other dogs, but she just lays down and rolls over. I guess the other dog attacked her, and she just laid down and didn't fight back, so he almost killed her. The second home, the son developed allergies, and the mother had a breakdown, and I guess pepper had to be pulled from her arms.
You would seriously never know. She is so eager to please, and she's already so snuggly, and she knows that I'm her mama.
We picked her up from the transport yesterday afternoon, and she didn't look exactly like what we were expecting, but she's so cute and lanky! We didn't think she would look as much like a greyhound as she does, but she is just perfect. She has been in a foster home, and her foster mom was the transport leader, so we got some detailed info on her, but that just made it more difficult for her to leave. It was heart breaking. She clung to me in the car, and then she didn't want to get out of the car.

I ended up laying down in the back seat while she just hung out, which I think helped her trust me. She still can't run and jump because she was spayed on Wednesday, but I can tell she's going to be a fireball.
The foster also told us on the phone last week that she is totally motivated my food (more than any dog she's met), and I laughed because the dog that we have would totally be obsessed with food haha. However, she also said that she eats as much as her 70 lb dog, and Pepper is 20 lbs haha.
She is crate trained, but she hasn't been in one for almost 2 months, so it was very hard to coax her into getting into the crate. I've done a lot of research, so we sat by the crate, put treats in, and praised her every time she went near it. It was kind of weird because as soon as my husband was starting to put it together, she backed up on the couch, and looked really nervous.
Despite all of that, she went right in her crate for bedtime, and only cried once. I told her, "goodnight Pepper, I love you" and she was fine until I woke up in the morning. I think it also helped that I put one of my tshirts in her bed for her, so she could have my scent with her. I actually wore it to bed all last week to make sure it had enough of my smell on it (I actually got that advice from reading on the pet board).
It's amazing how fast you can fall in love with an animal! What is funny is that she is totally different from any dog that I would ever think that I would have gotten (I grew up with a shih tzu), but she is perfect.

Re: Meet Pepper!
YAY!!!
Adorable and I love the name!
One of my dogs is a rescue dog and had so much trouble growing up and gives the same look as the last photo!!
she is so precious! I wish we would have crate trained our dogs - we keep saying we're going to do that with the next ones (we didn't crate train our little one because she was a breeder and was kept in a kennel her entire life, so we felt bad trying to put her in a crate, and we figured it wasn't fair to have one in a crate and one running free...) Both of our dogs are shelter dogs and give us that look of love!
I'm so glad that you found a shelter that would work with you!

Awwwww that's such a sweet story, she's a very lucky pup to have you both for parents! And I totally know how you feel about being so connected to an animal so quickly, Loki is totally my little baby boy now. It's kind of pathetic but I wouldn't trade it for the world!
Congrats, mama!
my blog
we were thinking little reindeer antlers...or a HO HO HO sweater to go with our possible Lois and Peter Griffin costumes (anyone know the connection??)
um, I'm stumped. I haven't watched much family guy for the past season or two though...
The first thing I thought of was the Simpson's dog - santa's little helper
haha she totally looks like santa's little helper!
there is an episode where Lois gave Brian a chistmas sweater that says HO HO HO on it, and she goes "don we now our gay apparel", and Brian goes, "it doesn't get much gayer than this". its also the same episode where Lois goes crazy and has to be shot by a tranquilizer dart.
