Thanksgiving Dinner

Hi everyone,

I am extremely anxious about what to cook for Thanksgiving. It will be the largest meal I've ever cooked! Its for my in laws and I'm wavering over what to cook what to cook. Considering this is happening in England I'd like to give them something traditional but with a twist. Like cornbread stuffing which is absolutely delicious and which my husband has been craving for months. Any ideas for a menu?

Re: Thanksgiving Dinner

  • I haven't gotten the cooking thing just right yet but I must tell you to put the turkey in the whole turkey fryer. It is delicious all the way through the bones. Besides, the turkey is what everyone at the table looks forward to the most on Thanksgiving.
  • Since it's in England, I'm going to assume that few of the guests will have experienced TG dinner so I'd go completely traditional, all-American.

Here's my typical dinner: turkey with stuffing (I make mine with sausage and sage but pretty much any type will do) and gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce, turnips, and green bean casserole (the Campbell's version). Then for dessert coffee, tea and apple and pumpkin pie and to drink, apple cider (not juice).

  • This is the menu I'm making so far. Hopefully it'll give you some ideas!

-Roasted Chicken with onions and apple salad (all baked together this is so yummy)

-Stuffing--but really dressing because I'm not cooking it in the chicken

-My smoked gouda mac and cheese

    -Mashed potatoes

    -Corn bread caserole

    -Asparagus with hollandaise sauce

-Brussel sprouts with bacon blue cheese and pears

    -Green bean casserole

    For dessert:

    -Pumpkin pie

    -Blackberry crumble

    And one other thing TBD

  • I would have something that they are expecting like a Turkey but then if you have things that you would like to incorporate for your own start to the tradition then do it!  It's your house after all!  One thing I learned is if they offer to help let them-but you don't have to let them touch the food!
