Baby shower - Diaper Cakes

I am interested in a gender-neutral diaper cake for a baby shower.

I would love it to be "jungle/safari/amazon" themed and have many necessities (desitin, lotion, shampoo), rattles, onesies, small toys, pacifiers, and all that stuff!

I don't want it to look sloppy, but I don't want a plain diaper cake with just ribbon and a stuffed animal on top.

Re: Baby shower - Diaper Cakes

  • You can buy them on Etsy.  I looked there for inspiration for one I made--bought 3 sheets from the registry and used those to hold the diapers in place plus shampoo and such built in for structure.  Then, I bought wood cutouts from the craft store, painted them, and fixed those to the front of each tier to give it a theme.  Added a stuffed animal on top and little things like pacifiers around the tiers.

Image search for inspiration and then just do what you like.  There's room to be creative but it will look fine as long as it isn't sloppily put together.

  • I like to use receiving blankets/burp cloths and wrap them around the diaper layers.  That way you can create a "theme" and it looks prettier than just diapers.  You can tuck the necessities into the ribbon, or on top of layers, or stick them inside the blankets for a little surprise.

  • I agree with blue-eyes- wrap a couple of fleece blankets around the layers to "clean them up" and attach items with ribbon.

Personally, I prefer the cleaner diaper cakes that are just diapers, blankets, and maybe a stuffed animal or two.

  • My sister-in-law made me an awesome diaper cake!  She wrapped the diaper layers with receiving blankets from our registry, and also formed towels and washcloths into flower-like formations and attached them at the bottom.  It looked really cool!  I think the person receiving it will appreciate any extra effort you make, but I really liked that she used things from my registry to "decorate the cake."  Good luck!

  • I just made one with ribbon around each layer, but I tied toys and pacifiers in a bow on each layer and a teddy bear on top...came out very cute!
