Renting a table for family dinner

I don't really post much, but have a question about having a dinner party and thought you ladies might have some answers,

We are having our family over next month for my son's birthday (there will be 10 adults including us) and I will have to rent a table to use in our dining room (we currenly use it as a play room and only have a small breakfast table).  I plan on emptying out the toy room and renting a round table, but am not sure what size table to get.  Our room is 10 x10 and I can get either a 5ft or 6ft round table.  Obviously I would like to get the 6ft table, but am thinking that might be too tight to get around once you get chairs in there too.  Do you think a 5ft table would work?   I've never really had to rent a table before so I'm just not sure how many people they will seat.

Hopefully the weather will just be nice and I can get two tables for our patio and it won't even be an issue...

Re: Renting a table for family dinner

  • Usually 60 in rounds are used for 8 adults and 72 in rounds can seat 10 adults.
You may want to see the cost between renting and purchasing one at Costco to use for future events.

Also if you are a member of a church they may loan you one.

  • It does seem a little extreme to rent one.  If it's a formal affair I'd try to borrow one or buy a cheaper folding one you can put a pretty cloth on.  Otherwise your family should understand and I'd just either set up card tables or serve food you can eat on your lap.
  • Thanks for the input and ideas... I actually have 2 6ft tables (they are 30" wide) and I never thought about putting those together. Last Christmas I used just one and it was too narrow to really have the place settings out and other stuff on the table (I used the other one as a buffet table).  I can just use some scrap fabric and put a runner down the center to hide the seam.  Thanks for the ideas... it will be much easier than renting one!
  • I definitely would do this vs spending money renting one :)
