OCM users

i have been a "sometimes" user of OCM.  I am a normally VERY oily gal.  i'm hoping this regulates my oil production.  I remember when i switched to the crystal and similar deodorants that i went thru a "detox" period where i smelled yucky.

i've been using OCM more regularly as of recent.  I've been ignoring the oil slick on my face in the hopes of better skin.  i've done some blotting before i go in to see a client so i don't look like a slimy person.

my question is...when should i expect/hope my face will regulate and i won't be watching my make-up slide off my face?  I'm getting ready for hot and humid weather so i'd like to have less of an oil problem soon.

Re: OCM users

  • What combination of oils are you using?  Are you taking enough time/hot enough water to steam the oil off your face?  When i switched my skin was immediately less oily (though previously very oil) and in fact was a bit dry until i got the balance right.

  • i've used a castor combo in the past. right now i'm using coconut oil b/c that's all i have available to me.

i'm rub it in before my shower. at the end of the shower i use a burst of hot to get my washcloth wet then hold that over my face to "steam" for bit.  then i rinse/wash off.  at night i use hot water from tap after i fill my son's tub or i get a wash cloth wet and put in the micro for a few secs until hot.  i hold the cloth to my face for several mins (reheating if necessary).

immediately after i wash it feels good.  not puckery dry but not oily.  just moisturized.  a few hours (or less) later....oil slick.

  • You're using only coconut oil and no castor oil at all?  If so, that's probably the problem.  The castor oil is what really dries my face out, so I would assume if you start to use more of that, it should balance the oil out better.  I would try altering the split ratio of your oils first and see how that works.  I also make sure that I do multiple steam cycles on my face, making sure to thoroughly rinse the wash cloth between each one.  I don't figure I can possibly get all the oil off with just one pass.  I usually do 3 times.

  • I agree with what pp said.  There are some people who swear by coconut oil, but i think a lot of people find it too oily for them (even in combination with castor oil).  I can use avocado oil w/o castor.  I use that about half the time and castor/olive the rest of the time.  I also only use it before bed (removes makeup and dirt/oil from the day).  In the morning i use hot water on washcloth only.  You might also try leaving it on for less time (wash it off as soon as you finish massaging it in), until you are able to try a mixture of oils.

  • I use castor/olive, usually 50/50, but sometimes closer to 70/30.  There's no way my skin would tolerate plain coconut oil with nothing else to balance it.

  • I have very oily skin, but it is actually less so since I started doing OCM, and I noticed the change almost immediately.  Ditto PPs that you should probably change your oil mixture.

I use a 30/70 mix of castor oil/safflower oil (plus a few drops of tea tree oil).  In the evening, I massage it onto my face, then steam with a washcloth for about thirty seconds followed by gently wiping off the oil.  I steam/wipe three times, then splash cool water on my face.  In the mornings, I just rinse my face in the shower.

  • Thanks for the thoughts.I'd heard straight coconut oil was ok so that is why I started. I'll have to go out in search for other oils. I'm sure he chemist would have castor oil.
  • You can also check a co-op or natural food store.
