s/o Wedding dress preservation

Who had their wedding dress preserved?

Do you plan on saving it for a dd/dil? Any other plans for it?

Re: s/o Wedding dress preservation

  • Who had their wedding dress preserved? I will, but haven't yet. (got married in 9/08)

Do you plan on saving it for a dd/dil? No.

Any other plans for it? I kinda want to wear it one more time before I get it preserved but haven't. Don't really want to go TTD either. So kind of at a stand still (and have been for 2 years).

  • My mom had a friend of the family preserve it (they own a dry cleaning place).  I never would have had it done otherwise.  Cleaned, yes; preserved, no.  What can I say, I'm cheap.

I have no expectations that any possible future daughter will want to wear it, but I'm not willing to sell it either.  I just like having it and one day will probably bust open that ginourmous box and see if I still fit in the dress.

  • I'm really glad you posted this. I was talking to H about this last night. I got my dress preserved right after the wedding (2 years ago) and now it's sitting in a box forever! I have to say, I loved my dress, but not enough to care if it gets ruined. I've been hearing about "trash the dress" photo shoots and saw some pictures online and I think the idea is AMAZING! You basically wear your dress one last time for this photo shoot and do a "trashy" thing to it like put paint all over it or jump in a pool with it on. Some of the pictures I saw online were incredible and I'm now really intrigued by the idea!

What do you guys think? Have you heard about this?

Trash the Dress shoots have been popular for several years now.  I think some of them are awesome, some of them (thinking particularly of the floating in water ones) can be creepy if not done right.

  • I didn't have my dress preserved, just cleaned and it now hangs in its dress bag in my basement.

I don't plan on ever having a daughter wear it. My grandmother left me her dress (I'm one of 7 granddaughters, so why she thought I would wear it is beyond me). It was so dated and heavy and huge, so NOT my style, so it's boxed up in my mother's attic.

A family friend had her wedding dress used to make christening outfits for her children... I might look into that!

I agree, they can be SO cool, but it's a fine line. I'd do a lot of research on the photographer before you do it!

  • Uh no. I am so not sentimental. I sold mine before we moved.

The christening gown we are using for DC has been in my family for 3 generations already so I didn't need one. Same for First Communion dress (though this one is 2 generations so far).

My DD will want her own dress, if I even have a DD.

  • i haven't had had it cleaned or preserved yet. i've been meaning to get it cleaned for a while but i'm thinking (hoping) about doing a TTD session so i definitely don't want to get it preserved until then.

i'm definitely going to save it but i don't expect my daughter to want to wear it for her wedding... if i even ever have a daughter. but maybe my kids would like to see it someday.

  • I had it preserved.

I don't expect my DDs (and I'm adopting so there will be a bazillion) or DILs to wear it.

I plan to keep it in a box, stare at it and like pp said, try it on someday to validate whatever weight loss strategy I am currently employing. :-)

**I am going to do a RTD/TTD shoot but I plan on buying a $100or so different style dress to do the shoot. I like so many silhouettes that I am looking forward to wearing a different kind of dress than I did at the wedding, also my dress had color so I plan on getting an all white wedding dress and experience that.
