I don't even know what to serve these days, seriously. We're having someone who works for my husband over for dinner tonight and I was planning on making a nice meal - I love to cook and I'm pretty good at it, if I do say so myself.
As I'm deciding what to make, I get an email from H with, like, a 15-point checklist I've decided to title Things She Will Not Eat. She seriously sent this to her boss, LOL. Can you imagine? Would you have done this?
I'm of the opinion that by the time you're 35, if you haven't learned to suck it up and deal with a handful of ingredients you just don't like (provided you aren't truly allergic or something), you are not ready to dine in polite society. I'm only half joking.
Anyway, eff that. I successfully lobbied for pizza takeout from the fancy place on the corner instead, LOL.
Re: Entertaining at home has become annoying these days.
OMG we went out Friday and they knew I was preggers to they cooked according to that diet. Which was awesome.
They asked the hubby, "what does she drink?" Hubby says "Oh, she drinks water. But it has to be filtered. and still. and served over half a glass of cubed ice." Long pause. "But she also likes sprite and 7-up. Just not diet. Or off brand." I felt so freakin high maintenance! I mean, would "don't worry about it, she lugs her bottled water around with her anyway." have killed him?!?!
And. I can't believe you are going to make me ask. Where the hell is the 15 point list?!?!
I'd send back a list of One Person Who Will Not Be Dining With the Zwiggy Family
And I agree with you!
You're in Amsterdam? I
you already. I miss the Netherlands!
Please do tell!

Payton the Boxer--aka Mr. Peoples
I can't believe I didn't include this, sorry guys:
Artichokes, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Feta, goat, and blue cheese, Peppers, Lamb, Pork products, Salmon, Shellfish, Tomatoes, Olives, qCapers (? This is so random, haha), Spicy foods.
I hate capers. But if they are in the dish I eat them, without pulling them out and without making faces. Because I am a big girl now.
I double dog dare you to serve her bland oatmeal. Or toast.
Omg, really? That is ridiculous!! I could see if she has allergies or something, but to just claim the things she doesn't like is dumb!
Pizza sounds like a great idea :-P

What? It seems like most of those are things that could be picked around. Definitely not worth upsetting the boss over.
That's pretty ballsy of her. I would never do that in a million years. Except to say, maybe, I can't eat pork and spicy food.
In fact, in the states we went to the H's boss's house frequently and he almost always served chicken legs as the entree. I can not stand chicken legs, so I just ate one and took a few bites to make it look like I ate a lot. I'm glad you aren't cooking at all and just going the pizza route.
Is she allergic?
The only thing I ever say I won't eat is coriander. I retch and convulse when I have it. I can't even eat it to be polite, and I can poke most things down, especially with enough wine.
Yeah, she's got balls to send that list if she's not allergic.
another reason osh needs to hire me as his assistant. i would eat anything you made
unless it has onions in it. then I won't touch it.
INTERNATIONAL NESTIE LIST
Unless he asked her for a list, it's REALLY weird to give one. I think if it takes more than about 5 words to explain your food issues, you're being too self-important. "I'm a vegetarian" or "I'm allergic to shellfish" are fine, but wow.
FWIW, onions and cilantro are a couple of things I never cook with for company unless I know they'll eat it. I love both, but they're commonly despised enough to not deal with them!

See, allergies, especially potentially fatal ones are more than acceptable. Just not fancying something is rude. I'm borderline on coriander (sorry, cilantro) but trust me, it's quite a show if I get some in my mouth. I really can't be polite. Clams apparantly send me into shock too (though I eat all other shellfish) but I don't feel bad about refusing either. It's for the host's own good. I'll happily poke down everything else, whether it's my favourite or not.
I would just make a nice meal for everyone else and serve her a plate of boiled rice. She should be used to eating that by now with the size of that list.
I understand not liking a few food and allergies are a totally different thing, but come on, she is just being ridiculous.
