So there are some girls that live in our condo building, ages 8 and 10. We run into them when walking our dog all the time. They LOVE Pugsly to death... perhaps more than Pugsly loves them. Nice girls, though.
They just came up to me and promoted their "dog walking business" to me. Even gave me their home made (markers/crayons) flier for it advertising their fee table. (lol) Seriously cute.
But I had to tell them no.
LOL, it's killing me, but I don't really trust these girls to walk my dog. I know they walk their own dogs, but their dogs know them and are comfortable with them. Pugsly is not. That, and there's situations that come up from time to time (like the stray pitt bull, or the occasional raccoons) that I just don't trust an 8 year old's judgement with. I told them they could walk with me and Pugsly (or Gary and Pugsly) any time, but that going alone wasn't an option.
They were bummed. I was bummed. *tear*
Re: Pulling at the heart strings...
That is really too sweet and I would have a heck of a time saying no too, but I totally understand your reasoning. Don't feel bummed! I'm not a big fan of other people walking my dog. He is great on the leash until there is another dog and heaven forbid a squirrel; then he is 67lbs of no brains and all muscle pulling.
Maybe one day when they are able to walk with you, you could let them hold the leash for a bit. I think that will allow you to see how Pugsly does with them and see how well they handle Pugsly. You'll be there to see how they do and that might make you more comfortable for future chances for them to walk The Pugs. Of course I would set some limitations, you know like don't leave the condo lot and a time limit to start off with.
