New to Charleston

Hello,

I am new to Charleston and a newlywed. My husband's job brought us here. Currently we're residing in the Mount Pleasant area. Anyone have ideas for meeting new friends here? I'm currently looking for work too if anyone has some pointers on that as well! Thank you.

Re: New to Charleston

  • What kind of work are you looking for? And what do you like to do? I am from Colorado and used to a more active lifestyle.
  • Hi,

Looking for journalism style work. We moved from LA and there was a lot of opportunity for this there. I just joined a gym but I'd like to join a tennis league too. I have three little dogs that keep me busy. I like exploring and trying new things!

  • Welcome to Charleston!  We live in Mount Pleasant too!  I have met a lot of people through school, but there's always art walks downtown and other activities like Spoleto (usually in the Spring, I think) and other things going on that you and your husband may want to check out!

School has me moving next week, or else I'd say I'd show you around! Sorry I didn't come about this post sooner!

  • The dog park at James Island County Park is a great place to take your dogs. My two love it....just don't let them drink the water in the lake! I don't know any exact info on tennis leagues but I know there are a lot in Mount Pleasant. I am on the other side of all the rivers in West Ashley.
  • Have you tried Meetup.com?  There are several groups in the Mt. Pleasant area.  This weekend is Taste of Charleston as well if you're looking for some entertainment.  I'm on the other side of town, too, so I don't know of any Mt. Pleasant specifics.  PilotJen, we go there all the time.
  • We also live in Mount Pleasant and were married in July.  We have a few friends here but not many and aren't really sure the best way to meet people either.  We love football and are trying to go out on Sunday afternoons to watch games.  The County Park off of Long Point Rd is a really nice park and also dog friendly!  As mentioned before there are a lot of events around town, usually a little costly, but fun and a great opportunity for meeting people!
  • Hi!! We live in Mount Pleasant, too! What gym did you join? I usually go to ESAC in Park West but sometimes I go to the classes on Johnnie Dodds...by sometimes I mean I went once...ha!

What part of Mt P? I have just found the park in Park West and loooove to take my pup there. There is also tennis courts! I'm not very good but love to play:)

  • Hi I go to ESAC in Park West. I live in Ivy Hall. If you ever want to try a class together let me know. I did power pump for the first time and has had me sore all week.
