Merin

We have an in-tact male cat hanging around at work the last few days - I heard him meowing outside last Wednesday and he's been around almost every day since.  He's SUPER friendly...  he follows me around and lets me pick him up/pet him/grab him...  any recommendations?  I can't put him in my car because T is super allergic and I can't really afford to take him over to TAHS to have him fixed (plus, putting him in my car...)

Re: Merin

  • Hmmm...   Do you have a coworker or friend that could transport him?   If someone could get him in a trap and get him to Humane Ohio, it would only cost $25 to get him fixed, and I might even be able to get that covered so it would be -0- out of pocket.

And, do you know of anyone who could take him in as a 'foster' temporarily while he finds a home, by chance?   I mean you could always re-release him, but you just hate to do that, you know?

I'd say you could try calling some local rescues but I know that they're basically all jam-packed. :(   If someone could foster, though, that might mean they could include him in the program.

I really wish I was more help! :(

  • I really don't know anyone who could take him...  :(  I thought about that, though.

I will see if my coworker (yeah, only have one....  ugh) can take him for me.  I don't really need to trap him or anything, he literally runs up to me when I go outside.  But yeah, I hate to re-release him...  but I think that's going to be the only option.  I'll see what else I can do, though.  Thanks for your help!

The only reason I mentioned the trap is in relation to Humane Ohio.  They charge a discounted rate for strays, but with the stipulation that they must come in in a trap and they must receive an ear-tip.  Otherwise it's $45 instead of $25.   :-

Do you know if anyone is feeding him or anything?  Does he seem healthy otherwise?

  • Okay, no problem - I know my CW has traps (for groundhogs...), so maybe I can have him try to get him in there.

He's pretty thin...  but he does seem healthy otherwise.  I'm not sure if anyone is feeding him.  My office is in a residential neighborhood, so it's entirely possible that someone might be feeding him.

  • butting in...

TAHS has had space lately for cats... you make an appointment and then call the morning of to see how full we are... and when you get here they'll be honest with you on whether we have a space for him (first come first served).  But we haven't been full every day.

once you get him in, he gets fixed, vaccinated, checked medically and behaviorally, then gets to live with 11 other kitties until he finds his family.
