Question for Pet parents

My H and I recently adopted a dog (1 yr old), we love her,she is a good girl, she?s very lovable and people friendly, always around uswhen we are at home, but last night I was making dinner and I remembered I hada frozen lamb dish in the freezer, I decided to have that be part of dinner.

Well, as soon as I stated heating up the lamb I noticed shewas nowhere to be found, then I heard her crying and found her under the bedshaking. I could not get her to come out, she was petrified and I couldn?t understandwhy.

This just happened last night and she was still cared to gonear the kitchen this morning, I had to move her water bowl and feed her in theliving room, she would not go near the kitchen.  I did some research online and found severalboards with people with the same experience, but not offering any advice on howto deal with it. Have any of you had the same or similar experience? How didyou handle it? Any advice is appreciated, Thanks!

Re: Question for Pet parents

  • It's more than likely the high pitched noise of the timer going off on the microwave.  My dog isn't bothered by that, but he hates when the alarm goes off on the fridge (when the door is open too long) or when the smoke detector goes off or if we set the house alarm off.  Oh and he hates my sisters house because when the phone rings there it's high pitched (and she has tile floors so it's super loud).

My best advice is keep bringing her back into the room where it happened and generally reintroduce the noise.  My dog still puts the brakes on when we get near my sisters house, but I just tell him firmly but nicely that we're going in and he gets over it.  When one of the alarms goes off often times I'll take him for a walk as it seems to calm him down and then bring him back in.

Hope that helps a bit ... if not, ask your vet.

  • Thank you for the advice, she is doing much better. I was working with her yesterday on going back into the kitchen and praising her and giving her treats. I took a while for her to get comfortable, but she's so much better than the night it happened when she was under the bed crying.

I will also try your suggestion of taking her for a walk, that will probably help her like it helps your dog, I will give it a try.

I realized there is a "pets" board, so I re-posted my question on there and got some good advice too. Thank you so much, I really like these boards, thanks for taking the time to reply :)

    have a GREAT day :)
