Interior decorator AFSBCN

We have a set of windows in our living room that I have no idea how to dress. It's a set of three windows fairly close together with soft shades, not technically a bay but it does curve out a bit. The sofa sits against them.

The prior owners had a swag across all three, which was a little dated looking to me. I don't know that I want to do curtains on them all, as I worry it would look heavy or crowded. It's just kind of boring at the moment. I guess I could replace the shades with roman shades but I don't know if that's a great idea with the kids.

I don't have a good picture of the windows at the moment. I'll take one later.

  • They have cordless roman shades.

  • Would a cornice board work? And then use two long panels on each side?
They're fairly easy and cheap to make yourself if you have the right tools, too.
  • Hezz, good thinking. I forgot, I've floated the idea to Mike before, he's just been so busy with work the idea of starting any project seems daunting. Maybe we will revisit!

  • My answer to all things window treatment related is plantation shutters.

  • We have two bay windows with a cornice shade and side treatments on each that we can pull across if we need to for privacy/light control. Works pretty well and I like the look.

    I agree, swag looks dated.
