Backlash about Compostable Chips Bags

Many of you know about Sun Chip's campaign for biodegradable chip bags. They were all over the commercials, and many people got very excited about the change. Apparently, the bags make a loud crinkly noise, and enough people have complained, so the Sun Chips are going back to the old, throw-away bags (which are quieter, I suppose).

Well, I'm disappointed.

Now, I have no personal experience with the new bag, but do any of you? WDYT about the switch (or the switch-back, rather)?

Re: Backlash about Compostable Chips Bags

  • I think it is absolutly ridiculous. I don't get people. I really don't.

I think it's the people that get up in the middle of the night and want to sneak the chips that are upset!

Pour them into a container if it's too loud! It keeps better anyways!!!

  • maybe there should be a choice. so people who want the supposed less noisy bags can have em. and we can have the ones that decompose
  • I just heard about this too! How dumb that SO many people complained that they were noisy that they are going back "until they can develop something else not as noisy"

They were noisy, but really, if you aren't sitting with the bag of chips in you lap watching TV on the couch, does the noise really matter?

  • The bags were obnoxiously loud, and I Put 2 in my compost bin months ago and they look exactly the same as the day I put them in there, but I agree with pp that this is lame.

That's exactly how most Americans eat chips, hence their annoyance about the noise Stick out tongue

  • That's insane. Put them in a bowl.

  • I admit I have not heard the bag, but this seems a bit crazy.

Ditto.  I'm disappointed at the lack of progress composting.  I can't remember when I put mine in, but they look the same.

I thought I read here that they wouldn't compost in a regular home bin?  I thought they had to go to the big piles that get really hot in order to break down (like the city programs).  Maybe I'm making that up.
