Hi there, I'm from the Seattle board and trying to plan a road trip mid-October, as we drive back up from San Francisco. We have a week to get from SF to Seattle. After reviewing TripAdvisor and other sources, so far I have this itinerary:
day1 Depart SF, drive along PCH to Mendocino, CA?
day 2 Overnight in Eureka, CA
day 3 Overnight around Port Orford, OR area?
day 4 Overnight in Yachats, OR
day 5 Overnight in Seaside, OR?
I'd really appreciate any suggestions for good places to see or stay along the coast (scenic areas or especially cute or artsy towns are preferred).
Thanks!?
?
Re: Oregon road trip help please
Yachats is a nice little place--not too busy/touristy. I would recommend Cannon Beach instead of Seaside. There are LOTS of great places to stay in Cannon Beach--we love the Ocean Lodge ($$$), or the Hallmark Inn (more affordable).
Seaside is neither cute nor artsy--there's a definite carnival-ish, cheap tourist-trap feel to it.
My whole family is from Port Orford and I can tell you there is NOTHING there. No restaurants, and there's one hotel (the Cliffside or something like that), that is barely decent. I would strongly suggest staying in Bandon(20 minute drive north) or Coos Bay (another 30 minutes up the freeway from Bandon).
Someone mentioned a hotel a while back that had a funny name, in Gold Beach or Bandon, it's called the Puk Puk Lodge or something...that would be a nice place to stay! Hopefully they can find this post and give you the name!
Also, Seaside sucks. cannon Beach is much nicer, I love the SurfSand hotel, it's gorgeous. If you feel the need, drive in to Seaside for the day. It's a carnival-Jersey tpe atmosphere.
Good luck and have fun!
