Finding Couple Friends

My husband and I just recently got married and within the last year or so moved back to my home town. We love our new home, but there are not a lot of young couples in the area and we have found it hard to meet new people.  Does anyone have any suggestions for good ways to meet couple or live in the Marshall area?  Is this the part where I write a creepy "personal add" for my husband and I?  We like Pinna Caladas, getting caught in the rain......j/k.

Re: Finding Couple Friends

  • Where in Marshall do you live? We live in Marshall too, but don't really hang out with anyone from town- we've only lived here a year so the only people we know in the area are from our workplace (starr) or family.

Stagecoach downtown is a pretty good bar, always something going on there. Dont know how sporty you guys are, but in the spring there are co-ed adult softball leagues, which is a good place to meet new people. There's not a whole lot to do in town, usually requires a trip to battle creek, jackson, or kalamazoo for some entertainment.

Its seems kind of hard to meet new people at random, as most get creeped out if you just walk up and say, "hey were newlyweds, wanna hang?" I'm interested in what other pointers people have too!

  • Then you probably know Keegan.  We went to high school together.  We live on Kalamazoo.  You?  We are more copper people than stagecoach.  The spuds there are pretty darn good.  I have been looking at local yoga classes but that not so much Patrick's thing.  We have yet to figure out a good way to meet others though....."Hi I'm brittany do you want to be my new friend." only works in preschool....maybe up to1st grade.
  • Ok are there any non-marshall things people recommend?  The read that article on this....has anyone been set up by other friends, joined a beer league, taken classes, randomly introduced themselves to their neighbors....any general advice here?
  • Hello and welcome to the Lansing area! Our board is pretty slow, but we do like to have get togethers. I have to ask, what is a beer league? I have NEVER heard of this... it sounds fun though!  You should definitely come to our next GTG. I have been a lot of the women from this local board. A couple of which, I'd consider, to be very good friends of mine.

Brittany, we do know, and work with Keegan and his sister who bartends at the coach. We're on West Drive, you are much closer to downtown- which I must confess, have yet to explore. Only been in a couple of the antique stores.

  • We dont live in marshall... Husband and I live in Morrice/Perry area and are in desperate need to meet some new people.. we dont have very many friends and this needs to change lol. Im sorta new to the nest.. been lurking for a long time but dont post much.
  • I'm from the jackson side of marshall, but there is an awesome little mexican retaurant called oye amigos. My grandparents have gone there for years.. :) it really does have good food, we make the trek just for that place. Try it! Not much advice on meeting people, we have been where we are for 3 years, and don't really have couple friends to hang out with. GL!

  • Ok... all of you newbies need to come to our GTG then!
  • What is this G2G and how do you find out about it?
  • A beer league is a social sports league.  You join to play something like softball, but its not overly serious and mostly people just want to hang out and drink after.
