Holiday party kid ideas

DH and I re-started our holiday party when finally moved into ournew house last year.  Since he is Jewish and I am Catholic, we celebrate both Hannukah and Christmas, so we call it a "holiday" party.  We have some traditional foods from each holiday.

Generally, people don't bring kids to our party (we don't have any ourselves), but a few do.  I'd like to set up a table with some (non-messy) activities to keep them entertained.  We are definitely going to have some dreidels with instructions, but I don't have any real Christmas game.  I can get some coloring books or something, but I'm looking for an easy game.  Any suggestions?

Not sure how old they are for that. Coloring is a good one, I could color for hours on end. Is decorating cookies too messy?

  • I like the coloring and decorating cookies ideas or maybe you could have some projects that don?t require parental supervision (depending on age) Michaels has some little kits that the kids could put together. If the kids are older however they can keep themselves entertained.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.  I don't think we want to get into decorating cookies - too messy and not enough room.   I'll check into some crafts.

    Thanks!

  • How about a gingerbread house? You could have it already put together and the kids could just add the decorations. Most of the decorations for a gingerbread house are pretty large and do not make much of a mess. Also, you could get a craft kit for making ornaments. I know Oriental Trading has some and they are super cheap.

  • A few years ago I found packs of wooden ornaments with markers for $1 at Michael's (4 in a pack). You could have tissue paper and tape and the kids could wrap them up at gifts or just take them home to decorate their own tree.

  • As a preschool teacher, we do a lot of arts and crafts around the holidays. I particularly love those foamy craft kits. You can get them at Wal-Mart of Michael's. The kids can decorate them with stickers, markers, googly eye (depending on how old they are), puffy paint, etc.

There are also a lot of good teaching/craft websites out there if you just do a couple of searches online.
