Creepy craigslist experience:

H and I were on craig's list looking for a dog house. Found one.. I spoke to the wife twice, agreed to meet her at her house and she said that she would be home not her husband. She mentioned this several times. Well, we got to the house, Ella was fast asleep so I figured that the wife might be uncomfortable with H knocking so I went. Well, some guy answers and he goes, "oh come in...the dog house is this way and so is my wife" and he locks the door!!! OMG, I almost freaked out. I told him, "NO...this isn't right, I must go!!!" and when I got to our truck I told H that he had to go in.

In the end, we bought the dog house but his wife wasn't home!!! In fact, she had left me a message on my cell phone saying she couldn't be there. Weird....because why did her H say she was??? And why did he lock the door????

Creeeeepy!

Re: Creepy craigslist experience:

  • Makes me sick to my stomach just reading it. I'm glad that you went with your gut on it and walked out!!!
  • That is so creepy! ?You can't trust anyone.
  • Ew!  OMG!  I'm glad you're ok!
  • yah, creeeeeepy! Glad your H was with you and good for you for going with your gut!

I met someone last week to make a craigslist exchange. I set up the meeting at the grocery store across the street from my parents building and had DH go with me. You never know what you're getting into. Call me paranoid, but I even forwarded the email(that included the guy's phone #) to my mom.

  • Nicole- those are some great ideas. I knew not to go alone and we intended on both going in but that didn't happen. I was too comfortable, bad judgement call.

I think that's going to be it for me. I'm not a trusting person when it comes to strangers...long story....and so H will be handling all future transactions re: CList. My H said the guy seemed like a nice guy....and perhaps, he didn't intend on doing anything to me, but the vibe was odd. H agreed. I bolted like a looney and if his intentions were not malicious then I likely scared him...but a girl can never be too safe!

  • That is creepy.  I'm glad you followed your instinct.

  • Oooh, that is creepy.

If it makes you feel better, I always lock the door when I shut it - it's automatic and I dont' even think about it.  DH had friends come over for poker last weekend, and I locked the door every time someone else arrived.  I didn't notice until someone tried to get something out of his car.

  • okay...i can let the door locking slide MAYBE...it could be habit. ?but soooooo weird and creepy that he said his wife was there. ?yuck. ?thank goodness your husband was there and you bolted.?
  • Oh wow!  That IS Creepy!  Did the guy lock the door after your husband came in?  I wonder why the heck he would say his wife was there when she wasn't and why the wife said several times that she would be there, but not her husband.  CREEPY!!!  Glad to hear you went with your instinct and bolted out of there.

  • SO glad that you followed your instinct and that you were not alone. I would not have bought the dog house....I've heard of all kinds of schemes that people have encountered from Craiglist ads. Definitely creepy...
  • OMG, creep!!  You just never know what peoples intentions are.  Glad it turned out better.  Is the dog house nice?
