Front yard patio under oak trees needs landscaping

We recently put in a new patio in our front yard.  It sits under two giant oak trees (each about 3-4 feet diameter).  Now I need help landscaping around the pavers (we are zone 8).

Any suggestions?

Pictures of the patio are on my blog.  Please comment here or on the blog post itself.

  • I would definitely add some shrubs.  They will add some interest to the space and help fill it in. Then add a bunch of shade perennials.  Native woodland plants would work well in the space.  I have a lot of shade plants I could recommend but I'm in Zone 4 so I have no idea if they would work in your area!

  • Thanks for the tip .We already have "spider grass" that edges the trees.  Its nice but kinda boring. We can't add anything with height because it would block the view of our house (and front door) from the street.

  • Have you thought about bromeliads? You must be in the panhandle. What city are you in?
