Plants/bushes/etc that deer won't eat?
Does such a thing exist?
We are moving into a rural area with lots of deer and the previous owners have the tiniest little bushes in the front of the house because they said the deer ate everything else that was there.
I did notice a couple of the neighbors have tall wire fences around their planting beds and bushes. I'm assuming to keep the deer away. But that just looks horrible.
Is there anything that can keep deer away, or anything that they won't eat?
Re: Plants/bushes/etc that deer won't eat?
If you google "deer resistant plants" you'll get a lot of lists, but
this is quite true.Ditto this. We are in the woods, there are deer in my yard constantly. They ate everything I planted this year, except my Azaleas. We've also planted some new things that deer supposedly don't like...Spirea, Pieris Japonica (which are my new babies so I'll be wrapping them this winter just in case), ferns.
My neighbors, who are retired and garden 24/7 wrapped their entire yard, so now I'm paranoid the deer will have nowhere else to go but my yard. We did make a homemade spray using eggs, garlic and chili peppers to spray on some things, so far so good.
I've given up on anything in the front yard because it's pretty much a deer highway, but the things closer to the house in the back seem to go untouched so I'm working on those areas.
I'm a little late to respond, but we have a lot of deer in our area. Our holly bushes do really well. The deer eat the berries, but leave the leaves alone so the bushes stay in tact and look nice.
They also don't seem to bother my daffodils or tulips, but it could just be that there are more yummy things available that time of year (like my hosta and lilies, which they devour).
