daycare

I haven't really been on this board but thought it might be a good resource since I am new to NH. DH and I are trying to project some costs in the event we actaully get pg within the next centurt. For you moms who bring your baby's to daycare...how much do you spend if you don't mind sharing and on what type of care do you have?

Re: daycare

  • Ari is 4 and we pay $160 a week for full time preschool/daycare.  I believe that it is about $200 for infants and it goes down from there at Little Frogs and Polliwogs in Manch.

When Ari was a baby I had her in an in-home daycare and it was roughly $150 for that.

  • I am interested in this as well since we will be facing this soon!!  I have heard some fairly large figures from a couple friends, but they also use daycare in MA which may be more expensive??  They were telling me around $300 a week they pay.  I kind of choked a little bit when I heard that number!!
  • full time new infant = $220 at a center, my toddler is $175 and that's with a sibbling discount.  Oh yes, tomorrow I will be writing a check for $1975 to cover 5 weeks of daycare (we chose to pay monthly most places have you pay weekly.)
  • At the center where we send Jakob p/t in Nashua, the cost is ~$1200 per month for full time infants and that cost goes down a little as they get bigger.  HTH!
  • We researched this last year. I only looked at larger day care centers in the Nashua area. For something like a Bright Horizons, KinderCare, Goodard School type center you are looking at about $300/week for full-time infant in Southern NH ($1300/month). In the immediate Boston area this is MUCH higher ($400 - $500+ a week). We were looking for 3 day a week infant which they do offer at many of the large centers but you don't get much of a discount. We pay $950/month for 3 days. The cheapest center we toured was $1000/month for full-time.
  • In home daycares are generally less expensive than a center.  In home will probably cost you anywhere from $30-50/day.  We pay $35/day for 4 days = $140/week.  I think that is very reasonable and affordable.

    Hope this helps!!

  • Thanks ladies, that is about what I was thinking. DH and I were ready to start IVF and then all of a sudden he had some realization of the cost...apparently guys don't think about this. So now, Im back to convincing him that we can in fact have a baby and that we will never have "enough" money if we think that way.
