"Winter" themed foods?
DD's first birthday is Dec. 15 and we're having her party the Saturday before. The party is a "winter" theme. The invitations are blue with snowflakes, we're doing pin-the-button-on-the-snowman for the kids, there's going to be a hot chocolate buffet... Here's my question. What foods scream "winter" to you. I know that I'm doing my Grandma's raw potato hotdish, but other than that I'm at a loss.
Re: "Winter" themed foods?
Chili.
Chicken Wild Rice Soup.
Anything with gravy.
Squash and pumpkin dishes... like butternut squash soup.
Apple/cranberry salads, ciders and desserts
I second Chicken Wild Rice Soup, or any thick chowder or stew.
Definitely hot chocolate
Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce! Yum! (Yes, I'm Scandinavian...how could you tell?) :-) Ikea actually sells really good lingonberry sauce.
Anything with pumpkin, baked apples, thick hearty bread to dip into a thick hearty stew, chili, pot roast... now I'm getting hungry!!
Fondue also reminds me of winter, but that could just be me! It's our Christmas Eve meal.
I bet kids would love something like a cheese fondue.
We are doing a baked potato bar. Not necessarily winter, but hot and easy!
Butternut Squash (I cubed some last night, shook in a bag with olive oil, spread on a baking sheet, sprinkled with kosher salt & roasted.. YUM, savory goodness)
Pot Roast
Chili
Christmas Cookies
Pumpkin/Banana/Spiced breads
Fondue (we also do this for Christmas!)
Baked apples
