How to/ where to make new friends ?

I am always looking to meet new people and new friends but the older I get, the harder it is. Do you ladies have any ideas/ suggestions? Is there a nest gtg coming up? I would love to meet some of you girls!

Re: How to/ where to make new friends ?

  • I think G2G are always wanted but hard to coordinate.  Lots of busy chics!
  • We can totally plan a little "new baby" GTG this winter! I'd love to meet you and your little lady when she comes.

  • What area of the metro are you?  I go to a church where I'm meeting so many people my age ("young" adult service, but the crowd is anywhere from 21-50!).

  • I'm making lots of new friends in a choir I joined.  Do you do anything in the arts or sports where you could join a team/club etc.?

You could also take some sort of community ed class and try to chat up your classmates and see if you strike up a friendship.

I think after college it is hard to connect with people around your age with similar interests.  Good luck! :-)

Risakaye- What church do you attend?  I have been thinking lately about trying to find a new church and would love something with a younger crowd.

It's called "The Exhange" and it's part of Woodridge in Medina.  It's worth the drive...we do so much stuff outside of the usual Sunday service (which is Sunday nights, not mornings!) and that's how I got past a lot of the "surface" friendships.  I'm still getting my feet wet, because I started going with my husband and then he got deployed about a month or 2 later.  My sister is the one who got me to go, so I at least knew someone, but it's still scary!  Here's the website, let me know if you have any more questions about it. http://myexchangechurch.com/#/welcome

  • Nest GTG's get brought up every once in awhile, and people always seem interested, but it's hard to find a date & location that works for everyone.

We've met some new friends from church. There are a few couples from church who have started getting together for dinner once a month - we take turns hosting and it's been really fun so far.

You could check to see if there are any professional organizations around that fit you and see if they hold networking events. Andy has met some new friends through career networking events.  I tried attending a happy hour with a group of public relations & communications professionals who work in the non-profit sector, but it wasn't a great experience for me. The rest of the attendees all knew each other and weren't very open/friendly to me as the new person. I went twice and it was awkward so I quit going. But, Andy has had good experiences attending networking events in his line of work, so I guess it's hit-or-miss depending on the group.

I have a friend who swears that going to community ed classes is a great way to meet new people since you obviously share an interest or hobby with the people in the class with you.

  • I always want to meet new friends but the reality is that it's so hard to find time to hang out with the ones that I already have.  :(

I have a friend who has organized a semi-monthly get together at her house (Sundays for a few hours) where everyone comes over on and brings a project that they've been wanting to work on but couldn't quite set aside time to do.   Some people bring photos that they want to organize, some people bring their iPod and computer and organize their songs, some people bring a craft that they have wanted to do.  I want to go and cut inspiration pics from my home decore magazines and organize them into an album, by certain categories.

You could start one of those - invite 3 friends and have them each bring a couple of friends.

  • I've been making a lot of new friends through my blog.  I even organized a blog get together back in August and I'm wanting to have another in November.
