Cell phone coverage and prepaid simcards in San Diego
Can anyone please tell me which company has the best cell phone coverage around the UCSD area?
From my research it appears to be Verizon but any help in this regard would be much appreciated.
Is it possible to buy a prepaid sim card with phone credits from the company?
Also any advice on where to buy it from?
Thanks in advance.
Re: Cell phone coverage and prepaid simcards in San Diego
I'm still astonished by how few prepaid options there are. Especially if you want to use your own phone! Since (I think) all the phone companies still like to lock their phones into one service provider, most of the prepaid options still seem to mean buying an actual phone! I've gotten some pretty weird looks when I tell people I just want the SIM to use in my own phone!
Cancer sucks.
Thats only if you are one of the iSheep that has an iPhone! I've been with AT&T for 12 years and I get reception all over San Diego and I don't get dropped calls. I sometimes even luck out and can still connect with AT&T when I'm down in Tijuana.
Prepaid SIM cards are pretty rare in the US but our prepaid cell phones can be very cheap and you can buy them almost anywhere.
How long are you going to be in town? Unless you plan on using your phone all the time it can be cheaper to just add an international plan onto your phone and just pay the roaming fees.
We not only had to switch from AT&T, but they even refunded us the "cancellation fee" because even AT&T admitted San Diego is one of their worst areas for dropped calls and there was nothing they were going to do to fix it. And this was before iphones came out. I'd stick with Sarahbear's Verizon suggestion. We have Tmobile and I have fine service around UTC (UCSD area), but I can only compare it with the AT&T service we previously had.
