My awesome find!!!

Here's the background:  I got screwed into Thanksgiving for about 12-15 people.  I offered to have dinner for us and my mom. (6 people.) Matt wanted to invite his parents, too.  I hesitated only because then, out of etiquette, we would need to invite his sister and her family.  He assured me that there was no way his sister would accept because of her inlaws.  Ok...add in MIL and FIL...cook for 8.

DH tells me a few days later that his sister, her husband, and their 2 children accepted!!! WTF!!!  12 people. Then my mom says "I let your brother know that Thanksgiving was at your place this year and he's going to let his daughter and her boyfirend know too!"  So if they accept and come we'll be up to 15.

What do I start to think about...dishes. (Cause I'm OCD like that.)  I have a set of 12 dishes. Not enough. And they're super dark blue.  I have 6 place settings of my fine china I got from the showers and wedding. Not enough. To mix and match would look stupid and I can't afford to get that many extra settings of the fine china.

So I started looking for cheap used china sets that could be mixed and matched and will still look nice. These are what my fine china sets that I currently have look like:

And this is what I just won for 99 cents on Ebay!!!

Yes...the whole 55 piece set for $0.99!!!  Although a few plates are chipped, if I mix and match the nice set with this set...I think it'll look great still!  I'm very excited and at least feeling better that my table will look pretty!

Party!!!

Re: My awesome find!!!

  • Great win!  Congratulations!  You'll do a great job with your huge family Thanksgiving!  Now for a question, do you have anywhere to put it?  Because we do not have the space for that much china right now :)

  • hahaha...nope! My sideboard is full and I have no idea where I'll put it!  I'm thinking I'll just store it in a box in my basement until I need it. I focused so much on just getting them I never thought about where I'd put it!

  • That's an unbelievable find!! I think you'll be fine just keeping it in a box in the basement.

Way to be on top of things and think about your dishes. I probably would have realized like 2 weeks before that I didn' thave enough and then wouldn't have had time to do some digging like you did. Smart move!
