Seasonal meal planning resources/blogs?

Hi ladies -

I'm new to posting on this board, but I'm trying to get better about meal planning around ingredients that are seasonal - can anyone recommend a blog or site/resource?

TIA!

Re: Seasonal meal planning resources/blogs?

  • My blog is all about cooking locally/seasonally. I'm cooking through Simply in Season and also review other seasonal cookbooks.
  • Have you checked your library? I think its a great source for cookbooks (but then I have a huge library system)

A Year in a Vegetarian Kitchen: Easy Seasonal Dishes

Farm to Table Cookbook: The Art of Eating Locally  I have this one in the car right now, but haven't had much time to check it out.

If you google seasonal cookbook there's a lot that comes up and I bet a lot are at your library!

  • I second A Year in a Vegetarian Kitchen, it's great.  I also really like Local Flavors by Deborah Madison.  The Farmer's Market is also a great resource for recipes, lots of my favorites are from stands who have them available to compliment whatever they're trying to sell (i.e., whatever's in season).

I also try to simply match a cooking style to the season it works best with.  In spring, I do a lot of stir-fries because of spring veggies like sugar snap peas and asparagus, and lots of salads because lettuce and other greens are in season.  In summer, it's grilling kabobs with peppers and onions, or caprese salad with tomatoes and basil, or pesto.  In fall it's roasting fall vegetables and soups, like pumpkin, butternut squash, and sausage.  In winter it's stews with stored root vegetables like sweet potatoes and carrots.
