Went to Aldi today. Verdict?

Worth it if you live close. I live literally 1 mile from there, so it will be worth a trip from time to time. But don't make a special trip for it. They don't have a huge selection, and what they do have is mostly generic. The deals are hit or miss. Some prices are comparable to Publix, most are cheaper. Here are some of the deals I remember:

3lb bag of frozen boneless skinless chicken - $5.99
Gallon of milk - $2.99
Eggs - $1.19
Cauliflower - $1.19

So - thought I'd give you the initial report :)

Re: Went to Aldi today. Verdict?

  • Just out of curiosity, how's their frozen foods section? I generally love Publix, but I find their prices for frozen foods tend to be kind of high compared to other stores. Luckily frozen foods are something you can stock up on if you find a good deal.
  • I saw on the news today that they are open and they said the same thing.  Mostly staples and generic brands.  I am a fan of generic brands on most things so that doesnt bother me.  They compared the prices on a lot of items to Wal Mart and Publix and they seemed to be significantly lower.  Especially with milk and cereal.

  • They do have a lot of frozen food stuff, in comparison to the size of the store. I think the frozen meats are pretty good deals.

Also, keep in mind that Aldi is a small store... maybe 1/4 of a Publix. Just wanted to mention that in case you've never been.

  • Where is the new Aldi's? I haven't been keeping up.  I haven't been since I was in H.S. (there are a few stores in Chicago).   I think it may be worth a trip to check out...

Do you still have to pay for bags or bring your own?

  • Thanks for the report.
  • Yes, you have to bring your own bags or buy theirs for 10 cents. You also need a quarter (refundable) for the shopping carts.

  • Oh, and it's at the corner of Aloma and Forsyth in Winter Park.
