it felt like Pretty Woman all over again ...

accept i'm not as pretty as Julia Roberts, and i'm not a hooker, and this was SouthPark Mall not Rodeo Drive.

some crazy dude with a hot pink feather headband made me feel cheap when i was shopping at the Sunglass Hut. i'm sorry, but i'm not really used to $300 sunglasses!? am i alone in this? i was admiring a pair of still-expensive-for-me $120 Ralph Lauren shades, when he starts telling me that those are "a cheaper variety of" this and that, blah blah blah. whatever! i didn't appreciate the better-than-thee attitude. ugh ... hello, i'm not the one working at Sunglass Hut and wearing a pink feather (when i'm a guy) and if even you were a girl ... your pink feather looked ridiculous.

guess i'll stick to the cheapo 2 for $30 sunglass mall kiosks.

Re: it felt like Pretty Woman all over again ...

  • I refuse to pay that much money on something that I'll either lose or break within a year.  I'm totally with you there!  I buy my purses either on sale or at my friend's consignment shop.  DH spends more money on clothes that I do... he shops at Guess and Buckle, while I'll only buy a pair of jeans from express when I get a $30 off coupon!  I shop pretty regularly at NY & Co, but that's b/c they ALWAYS send me coupons.  Call me cheap, thrifty or whatever you'd like, but times are tough and I can't bring myself to spend that much money on anything.
  • KB--I too am in agreement with you--especially if they are all made in China!  I could justify spending some extra dough if they were made here or in Italy, or some other country that pays their workers a living wage, but yeah, these days I can't justify spending extra just on brand name alone anymore.

I will confess to spending $150 on cycling sunglasses--but those had special polarized lenses, special darkness, and have sport strength and durability.  My day to day glasses are in the 2 for $30 category as well.

  • Shoulda asked him where he got his 'knock-offs' from because you KNOW he can't afford those on his salary. (That is.  .  unless he's still living with mama and dad and doesn't have any bills)

I thought I spent a lot of $ on my sunglasses I got at the beach a couple of weeks ago because I left my other pair at home. I spent 8 bucks. . really?!

Annddddd those actually just broke yesterday, so I'm back to the pair I've had for about 4 years now from TARGET! Yes Ma'am!

    You aren't cheap. . .you're realistic and sensible! :o)

I will admit though. . a while back, slickdeals had a deal for a reallllly nice pair of sunglasses (usually costing 100+) bucks and they were on sale for $20 so I ordered them, but never received the stupid things because they were back ordered so far due to the deal. I was ultimately refunded. Boo.

P.s. When I think of Pretty Woman. . . the first scene that pops into my head is the piano scene. . wtf?

  • Yea, there is no way he could afford them on his salary too. I love Southpark, but it can be ridiculous now.

The first scene in Pretty Woman that first pops to mind, is when she drives the Lotus.

  • when i think of Pretty Woman the first thing that pops into my head is her friend Kit smackin' on her gum and she says "Rodeo Drive baby". god i love that movie. i don't think i technically allowed to watch it back in the day, but i would find a way i guess b/c i remember being like 14 watching it. i probably learned way too much about sex from that movie.
  • This post disappointed me!  I was so hoping you were going to tell us you won a shopping spree and people were waiting on you hand and foot.  Drats!

I have bought one pair of nice sunglasses (~$100)before (years ago).  Crazily enough I still have them.  I'm the worst at losing things! However, I'm very cautious as to where I wear them.  If we go to an amusement park, etc I stick on my Target brand sunglasses which I love!   I would not pay $300 for a pair of sunglasses.  I think it's okay for people to do it, if they have the money.  However, I would rather place my money elsewhere.

As for the guy helping you, I would be reporting him to his manager.  Times are tough!  The Sunglass Hut should be doing everything they can to acquire your business.  To be berated by an employee is not in their best interest.  If the manager doesn't apologize for him, then I would be calling/writing the manager's boss!!

Thanks for bringing back the thoughts of Pretty Woman.  I LOVE that movie!
