Fertility Specialist Questions

My dr is referring me to a specialist because even with clomid, I am not ovulating.

I wanted to know what I to expect when going to a specialist.  I am very nervous and scared.  I also wanted to know how much did your insurance cover and how much did you pay.

thanks ladies!

if you feel more comfortable you can email me at missmarinat@aol.com

Re: Fertility Specialist Questions

  • They will probably want to run basic blood work, if you have not already had it. usually day 3 of your cycle see what your fsh is to see how hard your ovaries have to work. They usually want that number below 10.  There is also blood work for day 21 to check if you are ovulating, but it seems like they might have already done this for you. The next step after blood work is usually HCG to check to see if your tubes are open and sperm count for dh.

I have kaiser and they paid 50% of all my treatment, except for ivf, so I paid about $300 for the HCG. I went and had surgery also to chech my tubes and uterus etc and that was about $1000. If they have you do IUI (interuterine insemination) that cost me about $80 each time plus the cost of drugs.

If you have more specific questions, feel free to email me feninla (at) gmail (dot) com.

Sorry you are going through this ((HUGS))

  • ygm!
IVF w/ ICSI #2 - fraternal twins born December 2010 at 36 weeks.
  • Ditto everything Fenella said about what they will probably do. That is everything they did with me as well.

The first visit will proabably cost around $350 for the inital consultation. Visits after that depend on what your diagnosis is. Check with your insurance to see what they will pay for.

My big piece of advice is to make sure your husband gets tested as well. His test is sooooo simple and only costs $100. It would really be awful to have something very small wrong on your side but soemthing big on his side and you go through all the testing without him getting treated. So please get him tested right at the beginning.

My experience includes IUI's and IVF and lots of drugs and acupuncture. If you have any questions I would be happy to try to help. Please email me at nickoletta100 at hotmail dot com. You can also go back in my blog as I have written about everything.

So very sorry you have to go through this, it really sucks.
