scorpions?!

Ok, so I found my first scorpion in our downstairs bathroom this morning! I am seriously freaking out over it! I'm not used to all of these creepy crawlies in the house since I'm from the north. What should I do? Is this common? Do you think there's tons more around the house? Any info would be helpful! Thanks! Sad

Re: scorpions?!

  • scorpions are common in central TX, especially in newer developments.  There are some insecticides at the store you can get.  You can also just capture it and put it outside.  They are carnivorous and will eat harmful insects.  Yes, they are very creepy, but the species in SA is non-poinsonous.

  • Eeek! First a coyote hanging out front to greet us and now a scorpion! I would have died if I found one. They're actually kind of common in certain areas of the city and in new housing developments. I'd call the exterminator if you were really worried about it, but doubt that you will see many more.

  • They seem to come in pairs, so there is a high chance there is another one not far (creepy I know). I have Orkin come out everytime I see one and after that, no probs. I would just get a really good pest control company! Have you been lucky enough to see the centipedes we have out here? They bite!!
  • Ok, so, I called our pest control and they came out and sprayed the WHOLE house on the outside! I mean, 2nd to first floors! I don't know if it will work but, man do I feel better! :) Apparently we have some sort of bait dust stuff they put in our attic too, so we should be covered!

Umm...let's hope they DON'T come in pairs! I will honest to goodness FREAK OUT! I do not like creepy crawlies at all! Picking that one up today was awful enough for me! I just couldn't have it lying around with a pup and a 4 yr old curious boy! :) Thanks for the info though!

  • That reminds me of when my sister was little, she tried to play with a scorpion.  Thankfully, it just ran away.  But it woulda just left an anoyying bee-type sting.

  • Ewww...I have yet to see a scorpion, and I will not be happy if I ever do!  I don't usually mind creepy crawlies (hairy spiders and centipedes being the big exceptions), but I will freak if I see a scorpion in my house!

I've been assured by the neighbors there they are VERY rare in our development.  I sure hope they're right about that!!!  On the other hand, folks down the street recently found a rattlesnake in their A/C...!

  • i am so afraid of them!!! My DH laughs and calls them land lobsters bc I have dreams that they are HUGE!!
