Buying an unlocked phone

I am thinking about buying an unlocked phone for my DH on eBay.  We priced some new phones and it seems they require you now to purchase the monthly data package, which just isn't in the budget for us.  We pretty much just talk and send the occasional text.  Is there anything I should be wary of when buying an unlocked phone?  Any tips or recommendations?

Re: Buying an unlocked phone

  • Make for sure whomever you are buying from has a return policy and not as-is.

    Good luck finding something!

Btw, you could check craigslist if you are comfortable with meeting people in person to actually decide if the phone will work for your wants, needs and actually work. I got a phone from craigslist before and met the person at the cellphone store and had them activate it and make for sure the phone wasn't locked and that it was in working order.

  • Another option is to check out tigerdirect.com which has unlocked phones but gets them from the manufacturer.  It's a little more reputable source than ebay or craigslist.
