Well, I had hoped/dreamed that they would offer me an as-yet unadvertised job that would be more suitable for me, but alas, they did not. They are calling the job a student worker position because they don't have approval from HR to make it a full time with benefits position. They didn't expect to get someone with real experience, but it sounds like they have a lot of applicants who are like me, and not really many who are students/beginners.
It is a new team that sort of goes between research and legal, majoring in patents of technology developed by the Drs at the hospital. Right now there are 3 people on the team - one started in May, one in June, and one last week. The first two are legal types and the third is admin assistant. I would think of a student position as working under a senior designer, but there are no (and haven't been any) designers on the team. They aren't sure what the maximum number of hours they can let someone work without benefits, but are going to be finding that out.
Now I'm starting to think that maybe I would be ok with that job. My task for this afternoon is to work DH's new job income into our budget and figure out if we'd be ok with me not working full time. The job does pay well for a PT position, but I'll still make more on UI than I would at that job.
They're going to be making a decision the end of this week, so we'll see. Right now, I would be torn if they offer me the job, but not disappointed if I don't get it.
Re: my interview this morning
Interesting. As long as you don't need the benefits, it doesn't sound like that bad of a deal. Rodgers gets benefits at his new job, right? Are they daytime hours? If you could swing the budget, it would be kind of nice not working full time, especially when Rodgers is going to be working 2nd shift.
Is this a contract position or permanent?
Rodgers does have benefits with his new job, so I don't need a job with insurance.
I didn't think to ask whether the job would be contract or permanent, and they didn't specify.
If I work morning hours, we can take Nate out of daycare, which would be a necessity. With 20 hours a week, daycare would cost more than half of what I would make pre-tax.
It's good that you won't need a job with benefits, it may make it easier for you to find a job.
At least if you take the job you'll have one less expense not having Nate in daycare.
If anything, sounds like you at least get good interview practice out of this.
I was looking at some jobs that would pay me less than unemployment just to get some experience in the different field.
Hope they will at least let you do morning hours so you can take Nate out of daycare.
Good Luck!!
