Game Day Dresses?

Let me preface this by saying that I live in Florida, where its 80 degrees throughout football season. I have been wearing sundresses to games for the past few years, pairing them with necklaces in my team's colors, etc. Girls tend to dress on the cute/casual side for games here. Anyway, just realized that there are several companies out there marketing game day dresses, like this:

Maybe I am crazy, but I think this is kind of cute and am thinking of buying one. Any opinions?

i LOATHE those. they look like dresses made for a 5 year old, altered to fit grown women.

  • I actually think they are kinda cute! As someone that is a dress/skirt girl, I never know what to wear to football games/parties as I don't wear jeans and tshirts. Since dressing up for games isn't really about "fashion" I say go for it! I mean, people go all out for football game attire anyways (I have seen people wear elaborate costumes!) so I wouldn't think a dress is weird at all! I kinda wish I had one now- would solve gameday attire issues :)
  • i actually think they are cute. i am a total dress girl, though. where i am from, girls wear jeans and jerseys to games, but i know you southerners like to dress up Smile i say go for it!
  • Dresses and football games just don't mix. And those are way too cutsie for an adult.   (you asked for opinions)

DITTO!!!! omg, I hate these dresses. I love wearing sundresses to games with cute jewelry. I am from the south as well and I love dressing up for games, and it's also warm throughout the season. so yes to dresses + football. but just buy a dress in your school's colors. the gameday dresses that are sold are not flattering, not cute, and they are not for grown women to wear. if you already have a college degree, my personal viewpoint is that you are officially too old to wear this.

  • I like it...and I know in the south dresses are the norm for football games. Go for it. Also, forever 21 has some more simple basic dresses in a solid color that I think are good for games.  They're cheap so if you spill something on it (or another tailgater spills on you) it isn't a huge deal.
  • I'm not a big fan of the ones you linked to in particular but I do think some game day dresses are cute.

    I like this style

  • I had a feeling opinions would be mixed on this! Haha. I do agree that some of them are unlfattering and little girl looking, but I think there are some cute ones out there and will prob try to find one more like the last one posted. I am definitely a dress girl! Thanks for the opinions though!

I saw a few girls at Cotton Bowl wearing this type of dresses and they were cute, one girl had it with a denim jacket and cowboy boots and she looked really cute.

I like that a lot!  Even better than the original op dress!

  • Not a fan of those. I went to UGA where everyone pretty much dressed up for the games. And we went more fancy than casual. I loved it. I miss dressing up for game day!
  • are you still in college? they scream young college girl to me.
  • They look like something Bridget from girls next door would wear.
  • JMHO. Since you asked

They look like fetish wear. Sort of like dressing up as a little girl for sport. And I don't mean football. Unless you're in a superbox, I can't imagine accending steps in such an ensemble. Perhaps they come with panties that have "Go Dolphins" scrolled across the ass?

  • Have you seen http://www.gamedaygorgeous.com/ ?

I'm a Florida girl, so I understand the wearing a cocktail dress to a game.  I remember sweating my a$$ off at FSU games.  Now I just rock a Nike dry fit polo and some cute shorts.

  • omg awful. I'm going to chalk it up partially to geographic differences, because if you wore one of those to a Phillies or Eagles game, you would get HARASSED. Rightfully so.
  • I think OP is referring more to college game day fwiw. I went to college in Florida too and dressing up for games is extremely common and actually encouraged. My H's cousins all went to UGA and they dress to the nines for games.

BUT...those dresses are not cute at all imo. I've seen girls look great in sundresses at games, but not those. They aren't flattering at all and honestly look really juvenile (imo).

  • I don't really like the dresses in the link you posted but I'm all about game day dresses! It is definitely the norm here and they are so cute and comfy. I know all of the boutiques in downtown Auburn sell really cute dresses in blue and orange but that often don't have the AU logo or anything on them.

I wear a dress to pretty much every game...

You have clearly never been to an SEC football game.

Agreed. I'll never understand why some people can't just wear jerseys if they want to support their team. They do make nice women's ones too.

    It's regional.

  • I didnt get a chance to read the responses yet, but I am a Fl girl too and I have seen the dresses in RL and they do not translate. They look really bad - like Home EC bad. Gameday gorgeous at Dahlia is a good option in Thornbroke in the NW area. I also find good UF colors on the nordstrom website and on Ebay. GO GATORS!!!

Ditto.  I live in NC where it is was still 85 degrees last weekend and even hotter at the NCSU v. Boston College game.  I dress appropriately for the weather including wearing a red pea coat for really cold game days.   Go PACK!

What ACC school school did you go to?  I'm ACC (UNC-Chapel Hill) and we did not / do not dress like this.

I don't get this perspective at all. During the summer, I wear dresses all the time. Mostly casual, cotton dresses. I certainly would wear a casual dress to a football (or any other) game. Why not? I live in Boston so it doesn't apply to me, but if I lived in FL and was going to a lot of football games, I'm sure I'd wear dresses.

  • So I just asked my best friend what goes on at UGA and Duke (where she went for undergrad/ graduate school).  Her words:

'Yes, the sorority girls do that. One more reason not to be in a sorority'.  So true.

Not true at all. I live in a college town and many, many girls dress like this. I think if the dress is cute and well put together, you are good to go. Unfort., the Miss Natalie dresses are not properly executed and look sloppy IRL. But, why not wear a dress to a game? Its 90 degrees most of the time and why do the same ol, same ol of a t shirt and jeans/shorts? Be cute, do it up - but dont wear a dress that look slapped together and cost you over $100.

I agree that statement isn't true at all. Pretty much all girls and women wear dresses to games here. Sorority or not...
