XP:Rec your dishwasher cleaner (No Cascade)

Ladies, can I know what you are using? I finished Cascade (and I was not happy about it. The tablets left a powdery residue always on the top shelf).

TIA

Re: XP:Rec your dishwasher cleaner (No Cascade)

  • I use Seventh Generation.  It's the first green detergent I've tried for the D/W, and so far so good.  I always splash a little vinegar in the rinse compartment with it too to avoid the residue.

  • We've been very happy with ecover tabs.

  • We tried Ecover, 7th Gen, Method, and a host of store brands.  None of them worked well in our dishwasher.  We're currently using Mrs. Meyers with a large splash of vinegar.  They've stopped making it though, so once we run out of our stash we're going to try BioKleen.

  • We've tried Trader Joe's powder and BioKleen dishwasher gel and neither of them worked for our dishes.  Scuzzy dishes squick both Jeff and I enough that we temporarily went back to Cascade's little squishy pack thingies.  Once we forget how much we hated the EF options we tried, we'll try again with something new.

FWIW, we tried the TJ's powder on the suggestion of a friend (who lives locally and should have the same type of water as us) and they really like it.  I think we gave her the rest of the BioKleen, too, but I'm not sure what they thought of it.

  • You might have to try a couple to find one that works well for you.  It seems to be that your water and dishwasher has a big effect on whether or not a particular brand is a success or not.

Our exprience: 7th Generation worked well at first, but then we started to notice some dishes not coming very clean.  We're currently using Trader Joe's brand, and it is working very well for us.

I live by this (for my clothes, too).

  • I agree with the person who said you'll probably have to try a few to find one that works.

We use and like Ecover tablets and are able to split them in half to make them last longer.  Seventh Generation, Biokleen and Save The Earth or something like that that we can get in bulk at our co-op didn't work for us.

  • So far we've only tried Seventh Generation's dishwashing cleaner. It's working out fine for us. I do rinse off our dishes before I put them into the dishwasher so I guess maybe that's cheating a little.
