Poker Night Menu Help?

I need some help planning a menu for a poker night.  I am looking specifically for snack type foods that aren't too messy.  I am thinking chips with some sort of dip or maybe sandwiches or something. But I would love to get a little more creative.

 Any thoughts?

Re: Poker Night Menu Help?

  • Who will be there? Is it couples/just girls/guys?

  • It is mostly couples.  We're looking at 7-10 people.

  • For our poker nights we usually just do a hot dip with nachos or pita squares half way through the night.  we pause the game put the snack on the poker table, eat and then continue playing.

    or pizza.

Something easy and fast so we can keep playing the game.

sorry no fancy ideas on this one

  • This reminds me of the FRIENDS episode when Monica makes salmon puffs and various crudites for poker night and Joey tells her the food should be one syllable things "Like chips. Or dip. Or pretz."

If you want to get a little creative/fancy, I'd make some different skewers. They're great for a poker game since you can eat them off the stick and not get your hands dirty. Some of my faves:

Caprese Salad (cherry or grape tomatoes, mozzarella, basil leaves)

Antipasto (salami, tortellini, marinated artichoke hearts)

    Grilled Veggies (mushrooms, zucchini, peppers)

Fruits (your choice - I like pineapple and grapes as sturdy base options)

You can make a fruit dip to go with the fruit skewer.

Hahahaha, So maybe I should back away from the oven and go buy a bag of chips and dip from the grocery store.  :-)

I like the idea of skewers.  I feel like you could eat those without getting your hands (or the cards) messy.  Fruit sounds like a good idea too!

Thanks guys... I'll just stop worrying about it and simplify the plan!

  • I think things need to be something you can just pick up and eat with one hand... like bite sized apps.  I saw this recipe on Joelen's blog the other day that I want to try and seems perfect for the party, buffalo chicken bites.

I also make some pigs in a blanket type things using crescent dough and apple gouda chicken sausages that are really tasty and good hand helds.

Or you could do pulled pork sliders.  (I like to use mini rolls.)

A couple of heftier apps like that plus some dips/chips and maybe veggies with dip/hummus sound good to me.

  • Mini pigs in a blanket would be a good addition to what pps have already offered.
  • Our buffalo chicken dip is always a big hit and super easy to make!

  •   Honestly you are a great hostess for just providing a snack!! :)

I keep mine super simple, mostly it's the guys, and I also don't want a lot of clean up!! I use my crock pots (yes I have two!)  for queso dips or chili, the guys love super greasy foods and don't care about being healthy, yet they have yet to discover I bake my chicken wings and chips!

If you want something different make mini sandwiches or anything that you could put a toothpick in. Little mini burger sliders are super popular right now or can be made with chicken, beef, fish, or vegetarian, if you want  you can make mini pizza rolls, (i think it's pillsbury that has the recipe) anything that is super easy to eat and not crazy messy!

I love baked Brie and crackers,  meatballs are easy to keep warm, any dip like guacamole, seven layer, yogurt/cream cheese fruit dips, homemade salsas. Find out what your guests like, what you are comfortable making, think of a theme and stick with it!

  • I love all me Tastefully Simple dip mixes and the beer bread with the spinach dip is great.  I always get a great response whenever anyone tastes any of these products.

  • My zucchini crostinis are generally a huge hit. It's the first appetizer listed in this entry of my blog.
