TV repairs??

We did get a new TV, but we are thinking of seeing how much it would cost to get the broken one fixed or if it is even worth fixing, we could use it in the spare room if it isn't too much to fix it.

Any suggestions?

we have never had a TV reparied before

Re: TV repairs??

  • I'm no help on the repair, but I wanna know what you got! :)   We were recently forced into a new TV too and while I hate the expense, I love the TV. :)

We (meaning DH...) gave our TV that crapped out to our neighbor and they took it someplace to get it fixed up.  I think it cost them close to $400 though, so they probably should have just bought a new one instead.  I could find out where they went, but if it was that expensive I doubt you'd want to go there, haha.

  • We went to Costco planning on getting a 42" LCD.

Ended up with a 50" Plasma.

    LMAO

Plasmas are cheaper than LCDs now.  Although LCDs are much cheaper than when we bought ours 4 years ago, like half of what we paid for ours back then.  We were a little concerned about buying a Plasma because we don't know much about them and they are so much less than LCDs, the guy told us that Plasmas are just easier to manuf than an LCD.  So DH is happy.  The TV is obnoxiously large though, I'm not sure I really like it as much as DH but whatever.

Oh, we paid $619 for it!!!!!  Woot, Woot!!  The 42" LCD we were looking at was $800.

  • You can take it to Phil's TV Repair (or something like that) on Sylvania.  They have fixed two of our TV's.  Really good prices too.  Glad you found something you like though!!
  • Sylvania in Toledo between Secor and Douglas.
  • That's a GREAT deal!!   Is it 1080p?

Ours that just crapped out was a plasma, hah.  The only issue we ever had with it (aside from it dying...) was that it would get really hot and then turn off.  That may not be an issue with the newer models/technologies though.

And I would LOVE a 50".  We actually were dreaming of a 55" for when we upgraded but we were forced to replace the TV sooner than we thought, so we ended up with a 46".  It's an LED though and it's so pretty. :)

  • No it is 720p, but the guy asked what kind of cable we had and we have Buckeye, they do not have 1080p so it doesn't even matter, we are not getting 1080p anyways, he said if you call them they tell you they have 1080i and 1080i = 720p.  He said if you have a movie or video game it might be in 1080p but unless your on top of the TV your not going to notice a difference.

We were concerned about it not being 1080p at first but now that we found out we don't even get TV in 1080p we didn't care.
