If you had $5000 to give away...what would you do?
A contest on another site I frequent got me wondering....
If you could give away $1000 a day for 5 days straight, what would you do with it? What kind of difference would you try to make with it?
Re: If you had $5000 to give away...what would you do?
After spending a couple of days in a nursing home in clinicals I think I would spend $1000 of it one day on setting up some various entertainment programs at some local nursing homes. Most of those people are bored and lonely!! They spend all day waiting for bingo, at least the 2 days I was there they were.
I think I would spend $1000 one of the days on buying various books that I would like to see available in the libraries where they're not available.
I would probably spend the rest on various programs to educate as many people as possible. Or to make opportunities available for people.
I would spend $3000 to sponsor a dog kennel at the new building that the Minnesota Valley Humane Society is moving to.
I would donate $1000 worth of school supplies to kids who can't afford them.
I would donate $1000 to Minnesota Military Families to assist families of deployed soldiers.
Mr. Sammy Dog
Something for animals. Most likely vet care for animals otherwise unadoptable. (vaccines, spay/neuter, heart worm treatment etc.)
I'd donate to the Minnesota Federated Humane Societies. They didn't have money this year to do a training for new state humane agents. Boo. They do animal cruelty investigations across the state of Minnesota.
MNSNAP for sure. They need to do more speuter clinics in lots and lots of areas.
I would also donate to Harriet Tubman
And the American Cancer Society in honor of my dad
And then I'd pay for books for a college student for a year.
ETA: I would do these 5 things if you'd 1k per day, if I had to donate all of it at once, the MN Federated Humane Societies.
I would give to:
An education/after school program in a low income, inner city neighborhood.
A shelter helping homeless people get back on their feet.
An equality/GLBT organization.
A veterans affairs organization - specifically dealing with PTSD in soldiers returning from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
An organization helping women/families escape from abusive domestic situations.
I could never pick just one organization or cause, as so many tear at my heart, so I would spread the money among things that mean the most to me.

So many causes, so little money!
I'm pretty passionate about helping the earthquake victims in Chile, so I think I'd focus there first.
