Chicago!

Midterms are over! Time to look ahead to next weekend. My parents are doing a home exchange and coming down to Chicago to stay in a condo downtown near Grant Park. DH and I are going to visit for the weekend.

We're seeing the Lion King on Friday night. Anyone have anything special that we should look into doing? I've been to Chicago twice when I was younger to go to the aquarium and natural history museum but haven't "seen the city." I'm getting excited!

Re: Chicago!

  • If the weather is nice, Navy Pier to go on rides.

DH always likes to go to Fogo de Chao for steak (AUCE Brazillian steak). http://www.fogodechao.com/

I like taking people to Ed Debevics  Typical diner fair, but served with attitude! (Don't come if you are offended easily or don't have a sense of humor.) http://www.eddebevics.com/

    Chicago Deep Dish

And hit up IKEA, Home Goods and Trader Joe's on the way home.

Museum of Science and History. Go see "The Bean" in Millennium Park.

I have also driven by the Real World:Chicago building (think it was in Lincoln Park area), but I was a fan of the show back in the day. Embarrassed

There are also a number of calendars online that list events. Check and see if any festivals, local band concerts, art shows, etc. are happening that you are interested.

    Report back :)

  • Chicago was great! The place we stayed was amazing. We were right on the lake on the north side of Millenium Park. The condo had a view of Navy Pier so we got to watch the Saturday night fireworks from there.

We had a friend drop us off downtown (I don't know if I could handle driving down there) and went out to dinner at a place called EATT (really good) and then went to the Lion King.

On Saturday were ran along the lake by the aquarium, Soldier Field, etc. Then we walked to the John Hancock Building, took the elevetor to the bar on top for a drink, then stopped for Cheesecake Factory at the bottom. We also stopped by Trader Joes, Millenium Park, and a few other random places. Then we ordered pizza to eat up in the condo (better than any restaurant view!) and to watch the Iowa game. After the sun went down, we walked to Navy Pier to ride the ferris wheel.

We had a great time. It was a good trip to scout of the city. We'd love to go back and see some of the museums. DH's sister is in school there so I'm sure we'll be back again.

  • How was Lion King? DH is interested in seeing it. We are contemplating a Sat. night overnight in 2 weeks. Need an escape here soon before I go crazy.
  • Double check that you can get tickets.

We've been trying to figure out a weekend for the ILs to come up and it seems like every weekend that could work is sold out all day!

  • We loved it. I was amazed at how they made all the animal movements. They didn't have the ariels that I've seen videos of but I guess you have to go to New York to see that.

I bought tickets a few weeks before we left. The day show was filled but we were able to get tickets for the Friday night show.
