Architectural Boat Tours

Hi girls,

I'm a TX nestie and will be in Chicago next week... had a few questions about the Architectural boat tours:

 1.  Good or no?

2.  Best place to buy tickets from?  Online or while there?  Reservations needed?

3. Any discounts available?  where?

Any other tips?

Thanks!

     1.  Good or no?  yes, great views and it's nice to sit down for awhile and get some history

    2.  Best place to buy tickets from?  Online or while there?  Reservations needed? I doubt you'd need reservations earlier than the day of, this time of year.  Plus, buying the day of would give you more flexibility if the weather is bad or something.  It's been in the upper 70s and sunny this week, though.  Looks like Mon-Fri. is $28/person, Sat.-Sun. is $30/person for the 1.5 hour tour.  More info: http://www.architecture.org/tour_view.aspx?TourID=8

    3. Any discounts available?  where?  I don't know, I'd try googling it.

Any other tips? Deep dish pizza, walk along Michigan Ave., top of Sears Tower (fee) or the John Hancock Center (free, grab drinks in the Signature Room), museums depending on your interests.

    Thanks!

  • I've heard good things but I've heard not to go to the sunset show as some creepy crawlers usually come out at that time!

  • I've done the arch tours a few times. It's really great and lots of fun - very interesting to learn the little-known historic details about Chicago (ie, other stuff happened here besides a big fire started by someone's cow.)  :)   I usually get my tickets at Navy Pier. Sorry, but I don't remember how much they cost, it's been a while since I took the tour.

  • I have done the sunset/fireworks show cruise.  I really liked it...and the out-of-towners loved it.  I'm not sure when they stop the fireworks display, but I would go on that one if you can.  (They were still on last weekend...a friend of mine rented out the boat for their wedding reception).  Have a blast.
  • 1. My cousin was visiting this summer and my mom took her, they had a great time.

    2. I think that during this season, it shouldn't book up fast, so just find the tour you want to do and find the location to buy the tickets there.

    3. You can get great discounts on this site..  http://www.chicagoofficeoftourism.org/specialValues/

    Enjoy !
