End of the season tomato question
I live in Portland, and it's been a really crappy year here for tomatoes. : ( It's most definitely fall now, as evidenced by the mid-60s and gray to slightly sunny-ish weather we've been having.
I have a bunch of large green tomatoes on my plants outside, and I'm worried they're not going to ripen. Can - and should - I pick them and bring them inside to ripen? I know they won't taste as good as vine ripened, but it's also getting pretty rainy and I've had problems with some of them splitting.

Yes, you can bring them inside to ripen.
Or, you can embrace the green-ness of them & cook them. Besides the ubiquitious fried tomatoes, I like making chutney (recipe in my blog) and pickled tomatoes (lots of recipes on the internet).
Good idea, kastle! I hadn't even thought about doing anything with them until they're ripe.
