iPhone coming to Verizon in January - Thoughts?
Thoughts? My two year plan is up is January. I'm very tempted to get it but I don't know if I want to pay for a data plan. And I'm wondering if there will be kinks in it at first since it's a new network.

My first thought is "I'll believe it when I see it." I don't think anyone is going to be able to address your concern about the service until the phone is out, the plans start up, and the reviews come in.
Regarding the data plan, I don't blame you for not wanting to spend the money, but I think most people who get it really like it. The mapping/GPS feature alone is worth the $, let alone the convenience of having the internet anywhere you go. It's not a must, but it makes life so much easier. I can't imagine not having it now.

I actually think the reports about the iPhone coming to Verizon are legit this time. The iPad is going to be sold by Verizon beginning this month so I think the iPhone will follow.
However, I have a prediction: initially, the iPhone will be available only to new Verizon customers before eventually being available to existing customers. Over the summer it was reported that the iPhone would be coming to Verizon is 2011 Q1 (as it is being reported now), but only 3 million would be available per quarter. My guess is that Verizon (or, more precisely, Apple) is going to limit distribution at first and the most logical way to do this would be to offer it only to new customers to help increase the customer base.
I could be totally wrong...
ETA: ITA with kris that the GPS and mapping alone make the cost of the data plan worth it. I used it recently while I was stuck in traffic to find a new route for myself. It's fabulous and I can't now imagine not having it.

I have Verizon and an Android platform phone. I initially contemplated moving to AT&T for the IPhone, but Verizon's deal was better for me so I stayed.
That being said, now that I've had the Android for about a year, I don't know if I could go back to the IPhone. Yes, it's supposed to be the mecca of all smart phones or whatever -- but I think I'd REALLY miss all the customization I have with the Android. And the market grows leaps and bounds every day...there's no app I haven't been able to locate.
I guess I'm just an Android convert!
Ditto the last poster. I kind of think there are a lot of android phones on the market now that are just as good, if not better than, the iphone.
I have the TMobile version of the Samsung Galaxy S phone and love it. I played with my friends iphone the other day and honestly, I think mine is nicer.
