Does anyone refigerate/freeze bread?

I am clueless why is this done?  I just leave mine out on our kitchen table.

YES! I do - we don't eat it fast enough so it's easier for us to freeze it so it doesn't go bad.

 This. One loaf is too much for us & we're lucky to have touched at least half of it by the time it technically expires. We freeze it & take out slices as needed. Although, I'm not sure how long it's technically good for in the freezer.

H used to put bread in the fridge when we first started dating and it drove me nuts.  It dries the bread out and makes it crunchy.

My mom used to freeze loaves of bread when we were kids and she made our lunches for school all the time.  That way it didn't mold, but she never had to worry about running out of bread at 7am when we needed our lunches and she couldn't get to the store.

We can't eat it fast enough and I hate wasting it. I also like getting 2 for deals at the grocery store, freezing one loaf and pulling it out later. It saves time and money. I just pull the loaf out the night before...and maybe I just don't eat fancy bread but it always tastes fine to me.

THIS. We do it all the time. Sometimes I buy another loaf when we aren't quite done with the other one, it just helps to make sure we always have it if we need it. I don't think it affects the taste or anything, just keeps it as fresh as possible til we can use it.

same.  plus gerren looooves french bread so we buy lots of it and then freeze those loafs.  we dont get fancy bread either.  generic brand of the potato bread for my super healthy husband.  no bread for me, just oatbran/flaxseed pitas.

Never froze bread in my life and now my curiosity is piqued.  How does one defrost bread?  Wouldn't it be soggy and gross?

Makes sense.  I think I'll have to start freezing it since we don't go through bread fast enough either.  We only eat about half of it and then have to toss it.

Do you slice the french bread down and then freeze it? Why have I never thought of doing this?

yes we refrigerate it all the time because it prevents it from getting mold. I toast my bread anyway so i don't notice that it gets hard or dried out lol

We don't freeze it because I do find it affects the texture (I only ever use frozen bread for toast since it doesn't bother me there much, but since DH doesn't like it even for that we stopped bothering to put it in the freezer). That and we are really short on freezer space anyway.

we freeze hamburger & hotdog buns because we don't eat them fast enough. and we buy preservative free whenever possible, so if we buy more than one loaf, the second definitely has to go in the freezer. even in the fridge, those sometimes go fuzzy before we finish them. O_o

Sometimes the bread is on sale, and we buy extra, and we'll freeze the extra.

We just started freezing bread. Nick's mom did it when he was growing up, my family never did. We bought a few loaves the other day and froze two of them. Hope they turn out good when we take them out. I usually just turn the bread into bread crumbs and freeze those if I can tell we won't use the bread fast enough.
