I'm excited to finish painting our living room/office this weekend, but taping is such a PITA! Are any of you ladies able to cut in around the trim without taping? If so, you are my hero. I tape everything and still manage to get paint on the trim. ![]()
Also, I'd like to share an annoying quirk of DH's. That man will not help out on anything bigger than loading the dishwasher without advance notice. So if I'm cleaning and ask him if he'll tackle the bathroom and scrub the tub, he says, "What?! I didn't know we were cleaning tonight! You need to give me notice so I can prepare." Wtf, dude.
So, in order to "prepare" him for painting this weekend, I had to tell him about it last weekend and write a big notice up on our calendar to make it official. Is anyone else's DH like this? It's not like he won't ever help out, it's just hard for me to get used to planning out every little thing that I clean.
Re: Painting
Him not being able to help without advance notice sounds like him just not wanting to help, to be honest. lol. I have to chuckle at that because I've never heard anyone say they need advance notice that the house needs cleaning.
Speaking of cleaning the house, I'm getting so burnt out on doing everything myself that I think I'm going to talk to Ted about dedicating part of a day on the weekend to cleaning so we can both do it.
Aaand finally to answer your question - I can not cut in with taping first. Even when we tape I often times get paint wherever it wasn't suppose to be. I think painting is just mind numbing after a while and I totally space out, and then next thing you know there are drips of paint on the floor. ::sigh:: I think that's why Ted tried to do it all himself.
Haha, yeah, I also see it as him trying to get out of the job. To give him some credit, he has no problem helping with the easy things (taking out the trash, loading the dishwasher, cleaning the bathroom sink, laundry), it's just the more involved tasks that he needs time for. I'm thinking eventually I might just make a chores calendar for him.
With painting, I think I alternate between spacing out like you mentioned, and then painting with a little too much excitement. The latter is when I end up getting paint all over the place.
It has taken me over 10 years of painting, but yes, I'm mostly able to paint without tape now. Really it's all about finding the right brush to cut in with. I have one now that I LOVE. I have to go back to the store and buy like 10 more...
We have a lot of painting.
