iPod/iTunes/merging computers question...
So, tomorrow my computer's hard drive will merge with my husband's computer (he has room for another hard drive, so it's just a matter of transferring it over). We are also getting an external hard drive (500gb). My question is, will I need to back up my iTunes library on disc? I have an 80gb iPod (not iPod Touch), which I know acts as a hard drive. I guess my question is, if we're just transferring the hard drive from my computer to his, will this affect my iTunes recognizing anything? I hope that wasn't too confusing. TIA!!
Re: iPod/iTunes/merging computers question...
I am such a mac dummy, and backing up and syncing stuff in iTunes really scares me. I'm so afraid that i'll lose info!
If all you have on your iPod is music, the easiest thing to do is to manually transfer all of the music back onto your next computer (or external HD) by accessing hidden files within the iPod. I just had to do this twice (once in an old Nano and just recently on my iPhone, although the process is slightly different on an iPhone).
There is a great tutorial here.
Whatever you do, do not sync your iPod onto the new computer before you do this, because it will erase everything.
