Do I need a SDHC for my SLR camera

I got the Nikon D3000.  No movies. 10.2 Megapixels.

Do I need a HC SD card or will a regular SD card work just as well?

Re: Do I need a SDHC for my SLR camera

  • Depends on the quality you want.  a HC drive will compress the files and take up less room while not lessening the quality of the photo you took.  I'd check further though because I am sure your camera can take both, but some of the Nikon DSLR's can't take the SDHC's.  For example, my Nikon D50 couldn't take them but my D80 can take them.  It was just an older body style and when they did the update they were able to handle the HC cards.
  • A regular SD card will work fine, it just depends on what you're using it for. The SD card will not affect the quality of the actual picture, but it will affect how fast the photos record onto the card, which in turns affects how fast your camera can take pictures. But, it depends on your personal use for the camera. I have a regular SD card for my SLR, but it's a high quality 8gb SD card, so it has a lot of room and saves images fast.
