Anyone have experience with thrush? I've got some excruciatingly painful nips, like razor blades scraping on them when he's eating, but I don't see anything in O's mouth. He's teething and started solids, so kellymom says this could be why I'm having pain but it's been a couple days and I'm pretty miserable when he's eating.

ouchie.  No experience with it, I just want to extend my sympathies to your nipples.

I never had any extra pain with it, but both times you could see little white bumps in his mouth and/or on his bum. You can always treat it just in case with monistat or lotrimin on your nips right after feedings. Obviously you have to wash before the next feeding but that's what they'll likely tell you to do if he does have thrush and is prescribed something.

I thought I had thrush once with Will, but it turned out I was just having vasospasm because he'd gotten lazy with his latch and I'd gotten lazy about fixing it.

I had this too. I think with thrush you would see that on him or you. Can you try pumping and giving him a bottle for a few days?

i think i am just getting over a little vasospasm episode myself (i was poring over kellymom trying to determine if it could have been thrush but in the end don't think it was) hurt like an s.o.b.

I have Reynaud's in my extremities so vasospasms are recurring for me. I think the key to identifying them is seeing your nipples change color from white to blue. Something to look for.

Also if the pain lessens when you warm up your nipple. If I held my hand over my nipple immediately after feeding it warmed things up and helped the pain go down.

I'm going to call the lactation consultant and pedi tomorrow, but I think it's from a bad latch. I've watched today and he's been pulling back and chomping down on my nip and I'm guessing that's what's making me so damn sore. But I want to double check. Thrush seems like a PITA for real.

It was a decade ago so my mammaries are faded (see what I did there?), but Bug had a mild case of thrush. Her tongue had that white/grey coating on it and my nips itched and cracked. I remember rubbing lanolin and breastmilk on them and it clearing up in a few days, I don't remember if I did anything else. I don't remember it getting really bad either.

This vasospasm stuff you guys are talking about sounds 100x worse than thrush ever was.  I don't remember it being a big deal for me at all, just a little bit of a PITA to treat myself as well as Connor.

Lila had a terrible case of thrush and her tongue was all white.   It only effected me mildly but we had to use venetian violet on her and on my nipples plus the lotrimin.

I think we dodged the thrush bullet. I'm more afraid of mastitis.
