How did you...

How did you get readers to your blog?  I just started my blog and I want to encourage as many readers as possible.  What are your suggestions? Do you use giveaways?  I try and encourage comments but no one seems to leave any.

Re: How did you...

  • The best way to get readers is to write quality posts and to visit other blogs that are similar to your topic and to comment on their posts.  You can also search for forums that are directly related to your blog topic and comment there as well.

It will NOT happen overnight but if you join on line communities that are relevant to your blog and you have good content, eventually readers will come!

    Good luck to you!

  • I agree with the previous poster.  I have a blog that teaches you how to build your own site and market it as well.  I just launched so I don't have SEO or Marketing posts up but will soon.  A link is in my siggy.

When you write your post titles make sure to word them as someone would search.  For example if I write a post on How to Build a Wordpress Site I'm not going to word it as Today's Blog Tutorial or something like that.  I would word it as How to Build a Wordpress Site so that someone searching for those terms would find it.

Next, make sure any keywords someone would search for are included in your posts and you include them in search meta data.

Have you submitted your blog to any directories or to the search engines?  Just google how to submit to Google, Bing, etc...

Have you set up an Analytics program such as Google Analytics?:  That will tell you how many visitors you are getting, what keywords they are searching for, where they are coming from (such as a site referral).

Do you have any blogger friends to recommend you or write a post about you?

Do you have anything to contribute to friends blogs such as a guest post?

Giveaways and Contests help as well.  I've got tons of ideas so I need to get a blog post up!

If you have any questions feel free to email me at sarah at theblogarista.com.

This.  Most of my traffic comes from people doing Google searches for certain things I've blogged about.  Since I realized that, I put a lot more thought into the post titles.  Especially since there are a few posts people land on which wasn't quite what they were looking for; it just happened that the title matches their search terms.

  • Most traffic comes from Google. I also use Twitter to advertise new articles that I think people will really like. We feature giveaways but we've been around for 6 years so we've earned respect from companies to give stuff away.

What I have seen work great on personal blogs is to go visit other blogs and comment. Then people try to do the same back to you. Good luck!
