alice in wonderland/mad hatter themed baby shower

My mom is helping plan a baby shower for a friend and she said the theme was "tea party."  So I told her it would be cool for it to be a mad hatter tea party. She loved the idea, but I am proving to be not so great at thinking up the details. Anyone ever thrown a similar shower or have any ideas for this?

Re: alice in wonderland/mad hatter themed baby shower

  • I went to a shower like this. The cookies said, "Eat Me" and the cups or drinks said, "Drink Me". Tea pots had flowers in them as centerpieces. It was cute. I will try to think of more decor that was there and let you know if I can remember more.

  • Ok I LOVE Alice in Wonderland and have wanted to throw a mad tea party;  Here are some ideas I had:

-for invites you can do little tea cups cut out of a baby themed scrapbook paper and write dont be late for this very important date.

-For the table make it a long table and borrow from everyone you know tea pots and cups so they dont match (the mad hatter was mad you know)

-Hand paper lanterns around the room our outdoors in either blue or pink (depending on babys gender)

-Use teapots and cups for centerpieces and fill with red and white roses if you have time half paint a few white roses with some food coloring.

-Have everyone wear hats or rabbit ears, but the mom to be can wear a black ribbon in her hair.

  • Maybe you could even go to Goodwill or something to get a random assortment of tea cups and tea pots (or ask your friends to borrow) and small plates/ saucers as well

I like a long table if you have one/ have the space

I love having hats- ask ladies to wear wild hats and have a bunch made of felt around, with feathers, ribbons, etc on them

Have a white rabbit on the invite, or on the placemats/ napkins

This is an excuse to buy whatever crazy colors are on sale instead of having to match :)?

  • I am having a mad hatter baby shower next month. I am obsessed with the the movie and the theme. Here are a few things that we will be doing:

    1. The invites have different scenes from the tea party on the front and the back is the actual invite. It says something about don't be late to an important date. And something about a babyshower for Jaylin.

    2. We will have mini cakes in colorful boxes and pyramid shaped tea bags from beau-coup.com as favors.

    3. The  cake is will be round with a fondant green top hat just like the one that the mad hatter wears throughout the movie, price take will read "For Baby Jaylin".

    4. There is no color scheme. After all it is mad hatter so we are having just a rainbow of colors.

    5. We are asking people to dress as if they are going to a tea/garden party. However, we are going to provide the hats.

    6. We will have a table set up with an array of hats, boas, masks, etc. for people to take a fun picture in. The picture will be printed out and then they can place it in a scrapbook with a special message to the baby/us.

    7.  We will have a diaper cake also that will be topped with a top hat and a pocket watch.

    8. We will also have a cookies and drinks that say "eat me" or "drink me".

    9. As for my own attire, I will be wearing a black bubble dress with a green sash just above my bump. A pair of pumps, a black cocktail hat with flowers and lace and black lace gloves (both from CLAIRE'S) will complete the look.

These are just a few of the things that my baby shower host has planned. I gave him my theme and he literally just ran with it and I think this will be a shower to remember. Our shower is in November but I will have lots of pics to post then. Good luck with your planning and I hope this was helpful.

  • My bridal shower last spring was a Mad Hatter Tea Party and my mom and BM's did a fantastic job.

-The invitations were tea party themed

-The cake was a topsy turvy cake

-The centerpieces were tea cups with flower arrangements in them

-Each table had a tea pot with several different types of tea to choose from

-Everybody took home a tea cup and saucer (I think the hosts got a bunch at Goodwill)

-There were different tea recipes framed on all of the tables

    - Pictures from the cartoon version of Alice & Wonderland were on each table

Pictures in my planning bio under Pre-Wedding Parties of my shower.
