Another green tomato question

I brought some of my green tomatoes inside...how long will it take for them to ripen indoors? TIA!

Re: Another green tomato question

  • I think it depends on just how green they are to begin with.  Putting them in a brown bag *may* help speed the process up.  Adding a banana to the bag can also speed it up.  But both can also cause the tomatoes to rot.  Some never fully ripen.

  • It really depends on how close they were to ripening up before you picked them. For example, I just brought in a bunch of my green tomatoes before it froze and 2 of the bigger and mature ones (still pure green though) ripened up within just a few days, but all of the other ones are still very green and haven't started to turn red at all yet.

But if you get impatient remember there are tons of good recipes that call for green tomatoes  :)    just a thought

  • Great, thank you!  I have a combination of more mature and less mature...I tried fried green tomatoes and DH was not a fan Wink I will look for some recipes to use these puppies up!
  • we used to make green tomato relish called "chow-chow"

    it was so good.
