Have you...

been to a college gameday?

Dh and I never have.  They were in KC 3 years ago for Mizzou v KU, but we chose not to go (we kick ourselves for that).

I'm not really sure what to expect.  We, obviously, watch on TV each week....but I just have no clue what it's going ot be like to actually be there.

How early should we get there?  I'm sure this depends on how many other people will show, where it's being held, etc.

Any tips, suggestion, stories, experiences, etc. that you want to share would be great! :)

Can you tell I am SUPER excited???

Re: Have you...

  • The one time they were in Stillwater, I skipped out. A lot of my friends went, and it was insane.

Get there early, be loud, and have fun. :)

  • I went when it was in Stillwater. But, we didn't get in the 'pit' or whatever it is. It looked as if there were a certain number of people who got to be behind the camera (the ones you always see on TV). We just hung out to the side of it and checked it out for a while. I would assume you have to be there early if you want to get in the middle of all those people! I enjoyed it the little bit that we were there - it was pretty exciting - but it's certainly not something I'd like to spend my whole morning doing! I'd rather be tailgating!

  • We went last year when CGD came for the Florida-Florida State game.  We didn't get there early, but hung around in the 'pit' area at some point during the broadcast.  I don't think anyone could see us due to the signs, but we had a grand ol' time.  I did, anyway, as I got to oogle Kirk Herbstreit.  YesWink

  • Last time I went to one it was the Nebraska/Notre Dame game day crew, so we're talking...  2001 maybe?  2002?  It's been a LONG time. :)  We got there super super early and it was a TON of fun!
  • They came when USC came to Nebraska a few years back and we went.  It all depends on how they set it up.  They had a huge crowd for our gameday so it was inside our stadium and we weren?t in the pit but in the stadium behind the pit.  The key to getting on TV for that setup was to be on the far left or far right to get in the shots of Kirk or whoever is on the left (guest picker, etc).

I don?t remember how early we got there but it didn?t really matter because of how they set it up?everyone got in.  They showed Gameday on our big screen so you could align yourselves to the shots if you want to get on TV.

It was Callahan's birthday so our signs were about that...don't think they made it on TV, though.

  • I have been a handful of times.  It never mattered how early we got there because everyone was allowed in (although they seemed to have changed the set-up this year some).

It used to be that the set was elevated so the people closest to it would never actually be on tv because they were lower, you wanted to stand a little farther back.

FWIW, it is not something I would spend my whole morning doing.  You are behind them so it is not as if you can see much and they always have big nets up between you and them further blocking your view (at least I assume they do that everywhere and not just at OSU bc we hate Desmond Stick out tongue)

They have nets at Nebraska, too.  We have been known to throw corncobs at Kirk....

  • Thanks for the information ladies.

I think we will probably get there around 6 or 6:30 in an attempt to get somewhere close to being on TV.  I am going to make signs this week....if nothing else, as something to pass the time.

It's almost embarrassing how excited I am for this.  I feel like Christmas is on Saturday, or my birthday, or the first day fo school.

  • I have been to college game day ELEVEN times!! Its pretty fun - make a funny, eye catching, tasteful sign and you will probably end up on t.v.  Make sure the sign isn't so big you could potentially harm someone but big enough that those on t.v. can see it.  There is a "net' between you and the game day set and usually the game day set is set up higher than the crowd - so be prepared to sit on your hubby's shoulders or make sure you have long stick for your sign.  We usually get there REALLY early - like 6am early - and usually the game day staff will hand out donuts and hot drinks.  Overall, its a fun experience and one every college football fan should try at least once (or...eleven times....)

They announced today that the quad where it is being filmed will open at 330am.  We were talking about leaving the house around 5...that should put us there around 5:30.  We will see if we make it there that early.

  • I went when I was in grad school at Tennessee and Auburn came (back in 2004). It was a lot of fun, I don't remember getting there real early but it also was drizzling out so I think a lot of people waited until later. Have fun!!

    Vacation

  • They've done FB gameday one time at Kentucky and I was in town and went, but I have been to several BB gamedays!  It's always a good time meeting the guys and talking with them (you can usually do this after the game).
